SO delighted to have weaners again. These are such lovely, well handled, calm babies! They are taking a moment to get used to the electric fencing…but they’re quick learners. Their new surroundings hasn’t put these little munchkins off their food!

We visited the wonderful Arngask Farm today to collect our Oxford Sandy and Black weaners. It is surely pig heaven with piggies of all ages from beautiful sows. We are thrilled with our two girls. We had a look around their excellent market garden and treated ourselves to some goodies from their brilliant shop the ‘Horsebox’. If you’re anywhere in the vicinity of Glenfarg, you really must pay a visit. Thank you Eilidh and Lloyd, we just love what you guys are doing.

One of our Shetland Geese has hatched two beautiful goslings. She’s not ready to share her babies with the world yet. However, they are an autosexing breed and these two definitely look female. This will even up the flock a little - 4 geese and 5 ganders.

Over the summer months there’s always so much to do around the farm that I don’t get much time in my studio. However, today I got a little time to work on this art deco inspired ‘Studio’ sign. It’s a little tricky to read without the lead work but I think it will look nice hanging in my window.

Jamie has been today and sheared our Castlemilk Moorit sheep. We’re glad it wasn’t raining or in the searing heat of the last few days. We will ‘roo’ (hand pluck) the Soays as usual. We are hoping to get enough fleece to send off to the fibre company to spin into wool. Knitters watch this space.

High excitement in the goat pen this evening as Colin feeds the nannies with the overgrown organic asparagus from the kitchen garden. Lucky goats and lucky us as we kept the small sweet tips for our supper.

This will be an excellent event and I’m going. I’d like to be able to do an immediate f***l egg count if I have a sick animal rather than taking a sample to the vet and waiting 24 hours for the results. Sometimes those hours can be crucial. So I’m empowering myself by attending this course.
