Our summer season has been so busy so far and wee are almost fully booked right though until autumn.

So, this, for us, is really sad, but unfortunately this will be our last summer season 😢 and as such, what we have left, we would like to offer to friends, family and lovely followers of this page at a little reduced rate.

You might be wondering why this is our last? This is the boring bit (and the bit that makes us angry) you can keep reading if you really want 😊

Unfortunately, the Scottish Government has decided to impose a licence on short term let properties allowing individual council areas to impose whatever terms the choose. Highland Council have decided to go in a manner that will see tourism, which is so important to the Cairngorms, reduce massively, most likely sending people out of business, as they have imposed a restriction zone to Badenoch and Strathspey, within which Mo Chridhe lies. This means that all properties registered as holiday let's will have to be granted planning permission to be allowed to operate. We are almost certain not to be granted this permission due to the type of property Mo Chridhe is, where it is and the fact that we are a fairly new venture (the rules they have set are unobtainable for those who have recently established a let) and as such we have no choice but to sell the property.

This has been done with a view to free up housing for the local community. While we do not oppose housing for those in the area that need it, the council are taking away holiday let's which provide to the infrastructure for the National Park while allowing housing developments to be built that do not provide "affordable" housing for the community.

We have explored every option, we could go through this and see what happens but to be honest this is a fight we just don't have in us.

We are heartbroken, (well one of us more than the other) but we think this is for the best.

We have decided not to increase our prices with increasing fule costs, as many others have done, but to keep our prices fair and reasonable so many people can come and enjoy our lovely Highland home.

Mo Chridhe offers lovely views to the ancient Caledonian Pine Forest with walking and cycling trails on the doorstep.

Carrbridge is also just a short car or train journey from Aviemore and all the activities that the area has to offer including skiing at the mountain range, the lochs and trails of Rothiemurchus, Zip Trek Adventure Park, bike hire, the Speyside steam railway and the Highland Wildlife Park which all make for a fantastic day out whatever the weather.

The first thing I do when I get to Mo Chridhe is read the guest book. I love hearing that what we have provided here has made people happy.

We have had some lovely people here to stay and knowing they enjoyed their time here makes our hearts happy 😊❤️

Let's talk money...

The one thing people always say you shouldn't talk about, but here we are.

A few times recently we had queries regarding the rental of dates at Mo Chridhe. We always post the link to check availability as I cannot list every day that we have free, so the link is there to check yourself. I will always check availability and prices if asked, I absolutely don't mind this.

Where it gets a bit rubbish is when the price we give obviously doesn't suit and we hear nothing from them again or worse, we are told that "that's a bit steep". We get asked for discounts that put us in an awkward position of probably having to say no and truly feeling guilty about it. If we could give everyone a free stay or a massive discount we would but we genuinely can't, we have bills to pay too.

If we go and stay there ourselves, we either have to spend 4 hours doing a full change over and getting linen laundered or pay our housekeepers to come and in and do it, so it's ready for the next guest, so we don't get to stay for free either.

We are priced extremely fairly and in comparison to other let's, significantly cheaper. We charge, at most around about £150 per night (this can vary a little) at peak season. It's a 3 bedroom house that sleeps 6, that's £25 per person per night. Off season, this year, we sold at £89 per night, at full occupancy that's £14.83 per person. You can't get a hotel room that cheap.

We have all the usual household bills with a holiday let plus extra to ensure we, it and you are safe, plus comission and now new legislation sees us having to apply for a licence and planning permission to continue to operate.

While we went into this knowing exactly what our costs would be (except the new license and planning permission nonsense) and fully prepared for this we didn't forsee people expecting so much from us.

Please understand, we discount what we can, when we can and we completly understand the concept of "if you don't ask you don't get". We will always try and in return all we ask is for a little bit of courtesy when we reply, even if it's not the best news
