The sun has just come out from behind the clouds on what looks like a gorgeous day here at Low Park. Here with the family for a week for us but also doing some maintenance and preparation for the new season. Apart from the turnaround work, the biggest challenge in 1.9 acres of grounds is the grass. And being remote, it difficult to bring in help. The only groundsman/gardener we’ve been able to find kinda sucked in his breath, told us (again) that there’s a lot of maintenance while simultaneously letting us know that he wouldn’t want a maintenance contract. So we have Lawrna the lawn mower. This automower is great but won’t do it all - always areas it can’t reach and stuff that’s a bit ‘off-road.’ So today is a big day. I’m up earlier than everyone else to do some final preparations for the arrival of a shed load of topsoil. That which is off road can be made beautiful. ...assuming also that we can keep the moles at bay! Absolutely refusing to do the mole trap thing, I’m about to spray with a castor oil solution and then plant some Swedish bulbs that are highly recommended on the internet. ...everything you read in the internet must be true, right?
Anyway, remembering Jasper Carrott’s monologue about there being only one way to get rid of a mole..., I’m not holding my breath. Anyway if I can extend the autobot’s range just a bit, it’ll seriously reduce the volume of strimming needed. So coffee finished and sun rising (unlike rest of the family!!) ever higher I’m off to start the work. Wish me luck 👍😁
