The last couple of days have been spent getting some of our sheep ready for the sale later this month, our big sale of the year.

This year we’ll be taking a selection of homebred pure Summerhill EasyCare gimmers, ewe lambs and tups.

They’re all Bluetongue vaccinated, on the Heptavac P System, wormed and looking great ready for sale 🙌🏼

Nick’s been busy sorting through them and picking out his favourites… and judging by this lot, they’re pretty pleased to have made the cut 🐑

Since moving to Summerhill, we’ve become more and more fascinated by the land and all the little creatures and plants we share it with.

As part of our commitment to looking after it, we recently welcomed Applied Ecology Ltd to the farm to carry out a habitat survey.

We want to understand what we’ve already got here, what we could be doing better and how we can get the farm, our stays and the wildlife all working together.

We’re really excited to see the findings and start putting a proper plan in place for the future.

Sometimes life gets heavy.

Whether you’re going through treatment, caring for someone with an illness, living with or caring for someone with dementia, spending precious time together after the loss of a loved one, recovering after a stay in neonatal care, navigating postnatal depression or simply going through one of life’s toughest moments, everyone deserves the chance to have a break from it.

That’s why we’ve created the Summerhill Promise.

At least twice a year, we’ll be gifting complimentary two-night stays in our lodges to people who could really benefit from a little breathing space. If we’re able to offer more, we will.

We finally caved… and got some more chickens. 🐔

After losing most of our flock, it just didn’t feel the same with only our two old girls.

We’d heard introducing new chickens wasn’t as simple as opening the coop door, so after far too much Googling (and of course asking AI), we came up with our own plan.

Swipe to see how it went… somehow everyone has survived, we got our first tiny egg and the new girls seem to have settled in pretty well.

Here’s exactly how we’d spend a weekend at Summerhill Farm Stays… 🤍

Friday is all about arriving, unpacking, popping open a bottle of fizz, putting together a little nibbles board and sinking into the hot tub. No plans, no rush… just time to switch off.

Saturday starts slowly with a cooked breakfast using produce from our pre-ordered breakfast hamper, fresh from the farm. Enjoy your coffee with a view, wander around to meet the animals, spend the afternoon exploring Loch Ken at Galloway Activitycentre, then round off the day with an incredible meal at The Clachan Inn Dalry before another soak in the hot tub beneath our Dark Sky skies.

Sunday is for taking the scenic route home. Drive through the Galloway Hills, stop for a walk and make the most of your last few hours before heading home feeling completely recharged.
