We’ve (well, Nick hasn’t let’s be honest 😂) spent a long time wondering what Summerhill Farm Stays should look like online and how to reach the right guests. We’re a working farm, with two gorgeous luxury lodges and the best views in D&G.

It’s hard to show the luxury without the mud. For a while, we felt we had to be something we’re not on social media.

So we’re doing it our way. The lodges are every bit as luxurious as you’d hope, but the story around them is real farm life: sheep, chickens and all. That’s the authentic Summerhill. Including on occasion, Nick speeding across a field on the quad bike in the distance, chasing a sheep that’s made a break for it.

We might have just found the best lunch view in D&G.

is about 15 minutes from Dumfries town centre, so it’s well worth a stop on your way to us or on the way home.

Incredible food, views over the Nith estuary and nature reserves all around. We’re fairly sure we spotted some of the barnacle geese that fly in from the Arctic each winter 🪿

The gift shop is full of treats too. We couldn’t resist a dark sky book on stargazing in South Scotland, so we bought a copy for each lodge to go with our stargazing kits.

Make sure you put this one on your list if you’re staying with us!

Eating local tonight 🥩

Can’t go wrong with filling the freezer with meat straight from the farmer and tonight’s is from Kenview Meats

One of the many perks of living where we do is having so many brilliant farmers and producers right on our doorstep.



Locally reared, bought straight from the farm and supporting another local farming family, which we’re always very happy to do.

Doesn’t mince from the farmer (or butchers) just taste soooo much better and have a nicer texture?!

Doesn’t get much more local than that. 🐄

So… to Nick’s delight, we’re going cow shopping! 😂

Beltie farmers, we’re officially on the lookout for three lovely ladies.

Nick says two. Again, we don’t agree.
