We’ve just released a new series of films as part of our Our Glenkens project - this time exploring sustainable living in the Glenkens and celebrating life in our rural communities. The films were created in partnership with the Uist community and highlight inspiring local stories and perspectives.

Come along to a celebratory screening at CatStrand, where we’ll be showing all of the Our Glenkens films. You’ll also hear more about the project and have the chance to join the conversation about the future of our communities, especially at a time when rural depopulation is such an important topic.

Everyone is warmly welcome to celebrate the stories, people, and places that make the Glenkens so special.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day. 💐

As we continue to research the Kenmure Arms Hotel, we’ve been reflecting on the many women who have been part of this building’s story over the years.

For generations, women have worked within these walls — welcoming guests, running kitchens, caring for rooms, supporting families and helping the hotel serve its community. Their hard work, resilience and dedication helped shape the Kenmure Arms and now Kate, Polly and Victoria are taking things forward.

Whilst Polly is securing funding for our new heating system.
Victoria is transitioning her business to Limited Companies.
Kate is steering the ship with her properties, before the physical renovations start up again.

As we work to bring the hotel back to life, we carry that history with us and honour the many women who have been part of it.

Kenmure Arms Hotel – Project Update 🏗️✨
The big question is still… WHEN?

As many of you know, we’re working through our stages step by step — to create something that will serve our community for years to come.

We’re pleased to confirm that our specialist survey has now been completed ✅

Our main priority now is to remove the overhang at the back of the building, subject to the appropriate planning consent. This is a key step in protecting the long-term integrity of the building and allowing us to move forward safely.

Behind the scenes, there’s a huge amount of work happening:

🏛️ Kate is liaising with planners and architects to ensure everything is done correctly, sustainably, and with longevity in mind.

📕 Victoria is focused on food hygiene compliance and is also liaising with other hoteliers in the area who have carved out strong niches in the market — helping us build resilience and shape our long-term model.

📑 Polly is tackling the mountains of paperwork that come with bringing a project like this to life, while also focusing on ways we can reduce our carbon footprint as we build for the future.

While some progress isn’t always visible from the outside, we are steadily moving forward with the compliance aspects of the project before we continue renevations, our long term focus remains,

Thank you to everyone who's got intouch about our open sky light over the last couple of days! We really appreciate your concern, the building has several craked/broken/stuck windows on the top floor. Whilst we aren't in the building on a daily basis the wheels are turning behind closed doors.

As we step into a brand new year, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported, visited and shared memories with us at the Kenmure Arms. Your kindness and patience mean more than you know.

Looking ahead, 2025 was a year of anticipation and planning, as we set our hopes firmly on 2026 — a year we’re excited to see the continued renovation of the Kenmure Arms. Our goal is to lovingly restore and refresh the hotel while keeping the character, history and warm welcome that make it so special to our community and guests.

Here’s to new beginnings, shared dreams and a future where the Kenmure Arms is a place to gather, stay and celebrate for many years to come 🥂

Step aside soggy bottoms — this is all about mystery, chaos and cake-detective energy.
I’m dropping crumbs, clues and maybe the occasional red herring.
Think you know your sponge from your chiffon? Your ginger nut from your gingerbread.
Then step up, cake sleuth.

The first person to leave the correct answer in the comments wins a novelty prize!

This was reciepe for this classic pub pud was a new one and I think Mr Hollywood would score harshly for presentation but positive for flavour 😋

As Christmas fast approaches we have jumped to Stage 4 - Compliance. Kate and Polly are working with all the relevant professionals, to get the best use out of this amazing space!
So rest assured behind closed doors we are making headway.
