A tranquil B&B in a lovely rural setting in the Blackdown Hills run by Neil & Kathy Arnold. Also offering therapeutic breaks. All our meat is locally sourced.

Just off the A303 yet in a peaceful setting, Lodge House B&B is ideal for a relaxing break, especially when combined with one of Kathy's treatments, such as Reflexology, Indian Head Massage or Aromatherapy massage. We offer a full English breakfast made with eggs from our hens, our home made bread and jams and honey from our bees.

Plums, more plums and plum jam

The Opal plum tree is absolutely abundant with plums. We have never had this many off this tree and considering what a dry Summer we have had, it's quite surprising. So I was looking at all t he different things I could make/do with plums. One of the obvious ones was plum jam. Taunton Deane Morris Men in Churchinford July 26

Last Tuesday the Taunton Deane Morris Men were performing in the road outside the York Inn in Churchinford. We took our neighbour along with us to watch them. They performed a number of dances accompanied by musicians on accordion, flute and drum. Every now and again they had to move aside to let the traffic through, which is all part of the fun of dancing in the road.. Hot air Balloons over Buckland 19th July 2026

Yesterday evening we heard the sound of burners from hot air balloons. Suddenly over the tree tops came the first hot air balloon. We know when you are up there you can hear sounds on the ground, so we yelled "hello" and waved. Then a 2nd balloon appeared over the trees, this time an orange one. We remember fondly the time we went up in a balloon over Bath and could see the Royal Crescent....

Buckland St Mary Summer Fete 4th July 2026

What a glorious day for a Fete!! Gorgeous sunshine with a little wind to keep us cool. The Fete is always held in the grounds of Buckland House, courtesy of Mr & Mrs Norton who have a lovely garden and room to put up all the gazebos. The Blackdown Hillbillies were playing and singing, and teas with lovely cakes were also being served....

Otter Valley Field Kitchen

Friday being a lovely day and with Neil's sister Carole with us, we visited Otter Valley Field Kitchen just off the A30 going East towards Honiton. Coates Willow Centre, Stoke St Gregory, Somerset

Thursday was a lovely sunny afternoon and we visited the Coates English Willow centre. I was impressed by the willow elephants as we parked up. There are courtyard shops with a lovely cafe where we had a spot of lunch and later a coffee. The museum is very interesting and shows all the different ways that willow was used to make objects going back centuries....

Green Scythe Fair Thorney Lakes June 2026

On Sunday we went to the annual Green Scythe Fair. Its a great scything competition with music, and lots and lots of stalls selling food, clothing, tools, pottery, silverware, junk etc. Great to have a wander around. The guys scything were really fast. When we got to the Acoustic stage Derek Boles was playing and singing. We know him as a caller at the Chard Folk Dance meeting last Thursday....
