By the end of January, the pressure of 'new year, new you' often begins to feel heavy. We’d like to offer a different perspective: What if you chose to simply be?

At Dimpsey, we are huge advocates for the art of doing nothing. It’s not lazy; it’s essential. It’s the morning spent watching the clouds shift from your window, the afternoon lost in a book you’ve been meaning to read for years, and the evening spent listening to the crackle of the logs.

Reflection doesn't always need a journal and a pen; sometimes it just needs a quiet corner and a heart that is allowed to be still. You’ve done enough. Now, just breathe.

The edges of the week are starting to fray, aren’t they? By Thursday evening, the digital hum feels a little louder, the "to-do" list a little heavier, and the weekend still feels just a heartbeat too far away. We invite you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine a different kind of Thursday.

Imagine standing on the porch of Hither, Yonder, or Dapple as the light fades over the Somerset hills. There is no blue light from a screen here - only the soft, golden glow of a lamp through the hut window and the deep, velvet purple of the darkening sky. Perhaps today you wandered through the quiet, winding lanes of the Blackdown Hills, or spent an hour watching the world go by in a sun-dappled courtyard in a nearby village. Out here, the air is cleaner, the silence is deeper, and the "busy" simply doesn't have a seat at the table.

As you navigate the rest of your week, remember that this stillness is waiting for you. A place where the only deadline is the setting sun and the only notification is the crackle of the fire. While the cocoon-like warmth of Hither, Yonder, or Dapple might tempt you to stay tucked away all day, there is a world of quiet magic just beyond our gates.

The Blackdown Hills are currently a tapestry of muted winter greens and frosted hedgerows, offering paths that lead to ancient hillforts and hidden valleys. A short drive might find you lost in the charm of a local pottery studio or watching the mist roll across the Levels.

We often find that our guests return from these mini-adventures with brighter eyes and a deeper appreciation for the stillness back at the hut. Somerset isn't just a location; it's a feeling of being rooted in something timeless. Come and wander a while.

As the first month of 2026 draws to a close, the land remains in its deep winter slumber, and perhaps we should too.

There is a quiet beauty in this transitional time—the days are stretching, almost imperceptibly, and the first hints of snowdrops are whispering in the soil. At Dimpsey, we invite you to embrace this lingering 'slow.' Don’t rush into the next season just yet. Let the emails wait another hour.

Let the phone stay in the other room. There is still so much magic to be found in the long shadows and the early nights. The huts are warm, the tea is hot, and the invitation to escape the busy is always, always open.
