Sussex Freemasons - West Group 'Standards and Performance Workshop' is primarily aimed at Brethren who are, or are about to be given the opportunity of being an active Officer in their Lodge.
Director of Ceremonies, Assistant Director of Director of Ceremonies and Progressive Officers.
All Lodge Officers are welcome and it will be particularly informative for ‘Light Blues’.
Key Lesson Objectives for the Standards & Performance Workshop
The Attendee will learn:
1. Who the Magnificent Seven Lodge Officers are:
2. Why the Magnificent Seven officer roles are the most important in any Lodge: This includes understanding the concept of "Active Ritual Based Roles" and how these roles differ from other Lodge positions.
3. The importance of teamwork in Freemasonry, specifically in delivering Ritual. The sources use a sports analogy to explain this, comparing delivering Ritual and Ceremony to a team event where everyone must work together.
4. Where teamwork in delivering Ritual is built: the Lodge of Instruction. The importance of Lodge of Instruction, or rehearsal sessions, is emphasized as the place where officers can learn to work together and build trust.
5. Why Ritual cannot be read from the book, especially during a live ceremony. Reading from the book is considered unacceptable because it fails to deliver ceremonies with integrity, sincerity, and dignity.
6. That Freemasons are not expected to be "word perfect" when delivering verbal Ritual. However, the sources emphasize the importance of avoiding reading from the book and striving for a high standard of delivery.
7. The importance of floor work in the Ritual, including standards for dress code and appearance. The sources emphasize that floor work is as important as the verbal ritual and that a high standard of dress code and appearance is expected.
8. How to read and practice floor work. The workshop provide practical tips for understanding and practicing floor work, such as reading the red instructions in the Ritual book, clarifying understanding with the DC, and practicing at home and in the Lodge of Instruction.
9. Considerations for performing Multiple Ceremonies. This includes minimizing movement and timing, minimizing the number of people on the floor, and considering whether movement is necessary.
10. Etiquette and behaviour in the Temple, at the Festive Board, and in the community. The workshop stress the importance of respect and reverence in the Temple, decorum at the Festive Board, and carrying Masonic values into the community.
Open to all those wishing to learn.
