A day in the life of a B&B. Even in the spring we're planning ahead for the autumn. This afternoon's job - shifting and beautifully stacking our latest delivery of lovely logs from in our rather long log store. It even has its own gutter and water butt! Come a chilly evening, our guests love relaxing in the sitting room in front of our log burner.

Over the past nine years we’ve welcomed wonderful guests who first discovered The Old School B&B via Expedia and Hotels. We’re grateful for every stay, but recently we’ve increasingly felt that their booking systems and processes don’t always serve our guests—or our small business—as well as we’d like.

At The Old School B&B, we are committed to sustainability 🌱, especially during these challenging times when some are stepping back from crucial efforts to combat climate change 🌍. Today, with the beautiful spring sunshine ☀️, we spent time in the garden.

My morning began with the not-so-glamorous task of emptying and cleaning our Hotbin composter 🥴, which needed a reboot. The Hotbin allows us to divert a significant amount of waste from landfills, including meat, fish, dairy, and cooked leftovers, all while processing everything quickly 🚮. Today, it yielded a generous supply of rich, crumbly compost, which we used for our next task: splitting and replanting our rhubarb 🍃.

Our homemade rhubarb and ginger jam, crafted by David from garden-fresh rhubarb, has become a favorite among our guests. Overall, we maintain a closed-loop system here: composting all our B&B food waste, producing high-quality compost, and growing rhubarb to create our delicious jam served at breakfast 🍽️. Any breakfast waste goes right back into the Hotbin!

It doesn't get much more environmentally friendly than this! 💚 Well, it does when you consider that we also grow our rhubarb in repurposed vintage galvanized washtubs! 🛁

The Old School B&B Chichester offers exclusive bed and breakfast accommodation on the outskirts of the city, at the gateway to the breathtaking South Downs National Park. We have three beautifully appointed double rooms, all with en-suite facilities, situated on the ground floor. The Old School experience includes a warm welcome, a splendid environment, and a good night’s sleep, topped off with a hearty breakfast. We want you to enjoy a memorable stay, and visit us again.

The Old School is ideally located for easy access to the historic cathedral city of Chichester, the wonderful West Sussex countryside, and the many interesting places to visit in the surrounding area. We are the closest Chichester B&B to the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The Goodwood Estate is nearby with its flagship events such as the Festival of Speed. We are also well situated for visiting Fontwell Park Racecourse and the Chichester Festival Theatre. We have plenty of free off-road parking for our guests, with a regular bus service straight to and from Chichester city centre that stops just a few yards from The Old School.
