The gardens and water meadows are a designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”, classified as “A Site of Scientific Interest” and are within a Conservation Area.

More than 120 species of bird have been recorded and Otter, Mink, Roe, Fallow and Muntjac Deer, Badger, Fox, Hedgehog and Dormouse are resident species amongst others.
