To the lost ladies of our village 🤍🩶

We're pleased to announce something special...

Today we unveiled a memorial plaque for those who suffered through the Witch Trials of St Osyth in 1582. It commemorates not only the direct victims that were executed, but also others who would have been effected such as their children, friends, and family.

The plaque sits in Dead Lane which runs adjacent The Cage. This alley was originally used to transport the deceased from the Church to the town cemetery, so it seems only fitting for the plaque to be positioned here, as this would have been the beginning of the final journey for the townsfolk. It also sits adjacent The Cage, which for many has become synonymous with the witch trials. The plaque is freely accessible to the public, so we invite all to come and pay their respects.

We hope this restores some dignitity to those who suffered as a result of the witch trials, but also that when people visit, it makes them think beyond the folklore and legends and perhaps reflect on what really happened - a great injustice that resulted in the death of real people.
