Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre Access is by a forestry track which flanks Ennerdale Water. For friends and users of Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre. This Field Centre is in Ennerdale, Cumbria.

Set in the heart of beautiful Ennerdale, England's remotest, quietest and least inhabited valley, Low Gillerthwaite rests at the feet of Pillar, Steeple and Red Pike. It is run by members of the Association which was established by students and staff of City of Leeds College of Education to commemerate its Diamond Jubilee.

There’s something pretty special about the valley as summer starts to disappear.

Quieter trails, changing colours, crisp mornings — and a whole Field Centre to come back to at the end of the day.

Low Gillerthwaite sleeps groups of up to 40 and is available for exclusive use, making it a brilliant base for walking clubs, schools, youth and community groups, universities, sports teams and groups of family and friends.

And because we’re a charity, every stay helps support Low Gillerthwaite and the work we do here.

One of the things we love about being at Low Gillerthwaite is that no two days in the valley ever feel quite the same.

A misty morning, wildlife appearing when you least expect it, the river after heavy rain, or one of those evenings when the whole valley seems to glow.

Looking for somewhere a little different for your next group getaway? 🌲

Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre sits right in the heart of the Ennerdale Valley and can accommodate groups of up to 40 people.

You get the Centre to yourselves, with the mountains, forests and trails of Ennerdale quite literally on the doorstep.

We're ideal for walking and outdoor clubs, schools, youth and sports groups, universities, community organisations and groups of family or friends looking for somewhere to get together.

We're also a registered charity, so every stay helps us continue providing opportunities for children and young people to experience this very special place. 🌿

Sometimes you just need to switch off. 🌿

No traffic. No crowds. No constant notifications.

Just the Ennerdale Valley, mountains, forest, rivers and the chance to spend some proper time outdoors.

Low Gillerthwaite is completely off-grid, tucked away in one of the Lake District's wildest valleys — and that's a big part of what makes staying here so special.

Whether you're here with a school, youth group, walking club, family or friends, there's something pretty special about having this place as your base.

🍄 Fancy learning what wild food is right on your doorstep?

Wild Food UK are coming to Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre, Ennerdale for three foraging courses this year.

Join instructor Jordan for a guided forage around our beautiful corner of Ennerdale, learning how to identify and forage wild foods safely and sustainably — followed by a foraged meal at the end of the day. 🌿
