Holly Tree House - North Wales

Holly Tree House - North Wales Stylish and quirky cottage with garden, in Clynnog Fawr village close to Nefyn and Pwllheli. It was built in the late 80’s by the father of the owner.

Perfect to unwind, enjoy activities and discover the very best coast, countryside and attractions on the Llyn Peninsula. Welcome to Ty'r Celyn

Ty’r Celyn is literally translated as ‘House of the Holly’, hence the name Holly Tree House. He was well known around the village and was always willing to help with many a long tales to be told over a cup of coffee. This area of Wales is really beautiful,

it has wonderful views with the sun setting over the sea and creating shadows on the mountains. The house is on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, so there are opportunities for walks where you can see the mountains in all their beauty and their different colours at all times of the year. The house is very close to the beach so just a short walk away is a great place to let your dogs run. Alternatively you can head further afield to Aberdesach, Nefyn, Pwllheli and Abersoch. You can also join the many footpaths and cycle routes exploring the Llyn Coastal Path down to Bardsey Island at the tip. There is plenty of history to be seen in the area, with castles at Caernarfon, Criccieth and Conwy. Also the Lloyd George Museum and National Trust Plas yn Rhiw are great places to visit. The house is quirky in that the living room is upstairs and there is a bedroom downstairs. Downstairs is floored with oak, salvaged from a church. The lovely galley kitchen has been recently replaced to give a modern cottage feel with oven, combi-microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and wine cooler. The bathroom has also been replaced so you can enjoy a bubble bath or take an invigorating shower in comfort. The dining room, with oak parquet floors and hand-crafted staircase up to the lounge, is flooded with natural light with the dining table taking centre stage for you to gather round, enjoy a meal or play cards and board games after dinner. Then you can relax in the lounge on the first floor with views over the garden and towards the coast. Settle down on the comfortable sofas, plan your holiday activities or watch a film on Sky TV. The master bedroom provides a king size bed adjoining the living room, whilst downstairs the twin bedroom can also be converted into a super-king if needed. Both have wonderfully comfy beds designed for a good nights sleep. The house is set in an acre of land, in which a local farmer grazes sheep. The garden has a wide variety of plants providing colour throughout the year. It has places to sit out and enjoy the sunset as well has have a cup of coffee of glass of wine.

The last couple of years have been ones of major works at the cottage. We aren't that good at posting about them, so here is a summary.

The one we are proudest of, and was the biggest amount of work, was the replacement of the old cobbled path and patio area. Unfortunately our path laying skills weren't up to maintaining it in the condition it deserved.

On a more mundane level, we've also put in new radiators all round, a new modern septic tank, new fire alarm system, new fire doors, fibre internet with improved WiFi, new TV and soundbar.

More fundamental to the patch of land the cottage sits on, we have also put in improved drainage to handle the increase in water running off the mountain during storms. There is still a little more to do on that, but it seems to be handling the water surges better.

The refurbished shop just across the road has recently re-opened, (and the garage will the re-open soon), which brings great benefit to everyone in the village

We truly love the village the cottage is in, the Llŷn is an area of outstanding natural beauty and with the cottage sitting in a conservation area, it is a beautiful place to be to watch the changing seasons go by. We are blessed to be a part of it.

Home from a week at our cottage. The weather was glorious and sometimes too hot to work in. I took advantage and got on plenty of walking.
Sadly we were a little late for the best of the spring blooms but this hopefully means earlier guests got to enjoy them.
Narrowing down photos isn’t easy but here are a few from the week.
I pleased to say the hill side fire was quickly extinguished by firemen but it just shows how quickly they do escalate.
