Tallentire Hall

Tallentire Hall Holiday cottage We used to travel up to the Lake District every chance we got, until in 2016 we made the move up here permanently.

We fell in love with Tallentire Hall and wanted to restore it to its former glory, and this began our journey into self-catering hospitality. We want all our guests to love Tallentire Hall as much as we do, and will do our best to make each and every stay with us special and perfect for you. We have a passion for old buildings and bought Tallentire Hall in 2016. Along with the main hall there were

2 attached properties that we have repaired, decorated and furnished with love to become the luxury Gamekeeper’s and Gardener’s Cottages that are our fabulous holiday lets. Tallentire Hall has a rich and varied history that we are still researching, having been first deeded in 1086. The oldest part of the building is a tower believed to be dating from 1290, to the Elizabethan wing from 1590 which contain the two cottages, through to the front and north wing which were built in 1863. The south wing was the main hall for nearly 300 years until the Victorian owners built what is now the front and north wings, and the differences in architectural style are obvious. We named the cottages after the staff they had been used to house in those later years, with the Gardener’s Cottage being gifted to the Head Gardener, rent free for the remainder of his life, and Gamekeeper’s Cottage having housed the estates’ Gamekeeper, and later the coal man. We opened the cottages in June 2018, and have spent the time since then improving the gardens and woodland surrounding the Hall, to give you, our guests, the most relaxing and peaceful experience we can. We bought The Hayloft in 2020, and have refurbished it to be a 3 bed, 2 bath holiday let. It’s over our stables (used by 2 horses), and has its own garden as well as access to the rest of the grounds. We started to welcome dogs in 2022 in both Gamekeeper’s Cottage and The Hayloft.
