"We are happy honkers and friendly flashers" 😁 This describes the polite signals used by local drivers. When a vehicle comes up behind you on a single track road, it means they want to drive faster than you. The general rule of the road would be pass 3 or 4 lay-bys is ok, we know you are waiting for somewhere suitable and safe to let us past, the person behind needs to see past you in order to know they can pass safely. If you are leaving us sitting on your tail 🤷🏻♀️ we think perhaps you have not looked in your mirror? When we know you have seen us, we don’t understand why you would not just pull in? When it gets to ten minutes 🥴 At this point we might give a quick toot of the horn or flash of the lights as a friendly excuse me? Could I please get past? My wife is in Labour beside me here and we need to get to the maternity ward in Inverness ASAP.
In short, it's a piece of friendly, etiquette for visitors or people who live in the Ardnamurchan area, emphasizing courtesy and proper road usage on the narrow, single-track roads.
If we had you mobile number, the passenger would phone and say, excuse me, could you please let us past? That’s great, thank you, cheers! Enjoy your day ☺️ If we have been behind you for 15 minutes we will give a flash of the lights, if you don’t notice the flashing lights, after another 15 minutes we might have to toot toot, excuse me please, happy honker here 😁😬😁 As a thank you, once we are passed, we will give a flash of the indicator or quick hazard flash to say Thank you, much appreciated 🤗
