Beautiful Cannop Ponds is located only 4 miles away from Holly Cottage and is considered one of the most tranquil places in the Forest of Dean.

The reflections of the trees on the water and the abundance of birdlife create a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere to enjoy a walk, or just sit and relax.

A few interesting facts about the area:

* Cannop Ponds are two man-made reservoirs, created in the 1820s to provide water for the nearby Parkend Ironworks during the Forest of Dean’s industrial era.

* Today, they’re one of the Forest’s most peaceful beauty spots, attracting walkers, cyclists, anglers, birdwatchers, and photographers.

* The ponds are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including mute swans, mallards, mandarin ducks, moorhens, and reed warblers.

* There are easy walking trails around the ponds, picnic areas, and direct connections to the Forest of Dean’s cycling routes, making it a fantastic destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts.
