Today has been a bit of a wildlife adventure.
I start with one decent photo of a thick legged flower beetle on hogweed on my walk up the lane.

Then onto the rubbish photos.

The morning started with our 2 blonde bunnies frolicking in the paddock. I say our - they’re wild. A gene that’s probably the result of an escaped domestic rabbit many years ago.

Then we spotted our first ever hare in the paddock.

Also lots of swifts flying around - again not that usual to see them in larger numbers round here.

And finally congratulations to Charlotte our bathroom cellar spider, who has been carrying a large sack of unfertilised eggs in her tummy since the autumn - her latest babies have hatched this morning.

I love Charlotte - I have a house spider phobia and she catches and eats them. She does have a habit of hanging their bodies from the bathroom ceiling creating a bizarre house of horrors.

Went a bit off track today as I’m pretty sure I’ve heard a grasshopper warbler the last 2 times I’ve walked up the lane. Merlin wouldn’t pick it up as the first time I was on the phone and the second it was too windy.
Didn’t hear it today, just disturbed a red legged partridge and spotted masses of ladybirds!

It’s National Walking Month, and there’s no better place to get out and explore than right here in the Shropshire Hills.

Apart from a way to explore our amazing countryside, walking also clears your head, lifts your mood, and is one of the best ways to support your health.

Looking for ideas?

Find routes and inspiration at and on the Shropshire Great Outdoors Website.

Hop on the Shropshire Hills Shuttle Bus with to reach some of the best walks without the car ( weekends & bank holidays 9th May to 27th Sep )

Or take the train on the and step straight into the hills

If you’re out exploring this month, we’d love to see where you go.

Tag us in your photos and we’ll share as many as we can.

With a few sunny days forecast we made a last minute decision to head off to the North Pembrokeshire coast.
Our first time visiting, and it didn’t disappoint. What a glorious time of the year to visit with so many spring wildflowers out - wild garlic, bluebells, cow parsley, dandelions, buttercups, daisies… But I think our winner this time was the gorse, which filled the air with the smell of coconut.

Lots of swallows flying all around us at the farm ( and in the cottage itself a few times ) and we heard our first cuckoo of spring as we walked up to Garn Fawr.

Stayed in the very comfortable Granar Trehilyn with and spent the evenings watching the 2 DVDS of restoring the farm we were staying on.

Stopped off in Aberaeron on the way home for a honey ice cream. But felt a bit sad to be there but not staying at our favourite hotel.

Overall, a lovely impromptu break.

Cheryl reunited with her best mate, Ina, in the orchard.
A fitting memorial stone for her. Quite probably taken a few centuries ago from the local castle.
I used to love the way they chatted to each other - ❤️
