Thank you all for your kind words, not knowing much about Facebook I had no idea everyone was going to see my last message so quickly. I was just trying to make sure people knew we had closed before they tried coming up to visit. If you are interested, for more context on our decision please have a look at www.gliffaeshotel.com

🌳 As part of our fundraising for as part of our 'Room for Trees' campaign, we raised over £1000 in June between the hotel and the guests.

We donate £1 for every room night sold and each guest is asked whether they would like to donate £1.50 on check-out.

In this video, you'll see Keith Powell, a 7th generation Black Mountains farmer and vet, cutting bracken on the side of a hill in the Black Mountains where we planted over 130,000 trees this winter.

We have to keep the bracken under control to give the young trees a fighting chance.

After 3 or 4 years, the trees will grow taller than the bracken, and they'll eventually mature to shade out the bracken.

We're continuing our fundraising for and any money raised goes towards tree planting as well as ensuring the trees are cared for until they can take care of themselves.

Fancy some fishing?

As the days get warmer and brighter, and the river levels drop, trout take refuge in the deep, cooler and more oxygenated parts of the river.

They're relatively calm until late in the evening or early in the morning.

If you're planning on fishing in the Brecon Beacons, be prepared to have an early supper and head down to the river to get the evening rise.

Join us at Gliffaes Country House Hotel and try your hand at fishing in our private stretch of the River Usk - perfect for catching wild brown trout this summer.

Have you heard about No Mow May?

It was a campaign back in May to encourage people not to mow their lawns to benefit local ecosystems.

At Gliffaes, we have large areas of long grass that we don't mow until July.

The grasses now have time to seed, providing lots of food to birds like goldfinches.

We also see a lot of wildflowers, which are great sources of pollen for bees and other pollinators.

The long grass is the perfect habitat for voles, mice, frogs and toads who are, in turn, dinner for foxes, owls and other predators.

The contrasts between the mown paths and the long grasses are beautiful to our guests as they wander the grounds and see the local wildlife thriving.

Visit Gliffaes Country House Hotel to see our un-mowed grass and the impact on our ecosystem.
