Have you heard about No Mow May?
It was a campaign back in May to encourage people not to mow their lawns to benefit local ecosystems.
At Gliffaes, we have large areas of long grass that we don't mow until July.
The grasses now have time to seed, providing lots of food to birds like goldfinches.
We also see a lot of wildflowers, which are great sources of pollen for bees and other pollinators.
The long grass is the perfect habitat for voles, mice, frogs and toads who are, in turn, dinner for foxes, owls and other predators.
The contrasts between the mown paths and the long grasses are beautiful to our guests as they wander the grounds and see the local wildlife thriving.
Visit Gliffaes Country House Hotel to see our un-mowed grass and the impact on our ecosystem.
