Our rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, all with ensuite facilities, while our home & gardens offer plenty of opportunity for relaxation - or wickedly competitive croquet! We're proud of our Bed & Breakfast's green credentials, but intensely aware we need to do more. "Green, but without the hair shirt" is our motto. And, from Dowfold House Bed & Breakfast, there's plenty to do. From railway rides to walks & cycle rides; from gardens to more strenuous pursuits. Dowfold House Bed & Breakfast is in a quiet location overlooking Crook, with stunning views over Weardale as far as the North Pennines. We welcome business visitors, tourers, cyclists, walkers, dogs, horses [NEW] and children. People just keep coming back! Crook is an ideal, peaceful, place to stay when visiting the North East of England. We are located right at the heart of County Durham, with easy access to The City of Durham and the Durham Dales (England's last great wilderness). Dowfold House Bed and Breakfast is close to the A68, a major route to and from Scotland. Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and the Durham Coast are all within easy reach of our Bed & Breakfast accommodation, while Crook acts as a gateway to the Durham Dales (Weardale, Teesdale) and the North Pennines.

🌾 Harvest Festival is coming to Auckland Palace & Gardens this September 🌾

On Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 September (11am - 4pm), celebrate the season with Bishop Auckland's very own Horticultural & Produce Show.
Hearth is offering it's second beacon event of the year, showcasing the biggest veg, the brightest blooms, homemade cakes, pies, jams and more. With open competitions for adults and children, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The weekend will be packed with family fun – try your hand at apple pressing, join the inaugural 'Grow-lympic Games', make a harvest crown for the Last Sheaf Parade, or take part in The Big Bulb Planting. Plus, enjoy traditional fairground games, live music from Bearpark & Esh Colliery Band, roving entertainment, and finish the day with a lively harvest ceilidh with local folk favourites Rough Shot.

This Beacon Event is a spark in a wider programme of people, place, and possibility, brought to you by Hearth - in partnership with the Auckland Project. Thanks to generous external support, entry to the festival and grounds activities is FREE (Palace admission ticket required for entry inside).
