Blackdown Yurts

Blackdown Yurts Glamping site with four yurts in a beautiful hidden valley on the edge of Devon's Blackdown Hills Combined they sleep 22.

Set within 30 acres on our smallholding between Exeter and Honiton, each authentic Mongolian yurt is tucked away in its own secluded spot, with plenty of space to explore and unwind. Providing a glamorous alternative to roughing it in a tent, our yurts are furnished with an eclectic blend of rustic and ethnic furniture. Thick Kilim rugs, fluffy sheepskins, plump cushions, a log burner and organic

bedlinen ensure your stay will be a comfortable one. With spring water on tap, solar electricity and composting loos our yurt holidays also try to be as eco-friendly as possible. For added luxury there are also hot showers and flushing toilets in the adjacent communal barn, where you will also find kitchen facilities including fridge-freezers, a microwave, kettle, toaster and hot water for washing up alongside a large dining table, sofa area and large woodburner. Blackdown Yurts is a perfect location for family and friends to get together. Willow our small yurt sleeps up to 4, Badger, Woodpecker and Buzzard each sleep up to 6. Ask about hen, stag and birthday parties. We can recommend local produce and can cater for up to 22 in the form of a paella tailored to your requirements. By day, hundreds of footpaths, riverbanks, ancient woodlands, villages and churches are just waiting to be explored. Enjoy the food and drink at one the excellent nearby local pubs or restaurants. Or why not just breathe in the fresh country air and relax into a new rhythm of life, free from televisions, computers and telephones…

As the day draws to an end and the sun gives way to solar lamps and lanterns, light the barbeque or use your own field kitchen to prepare a meal to be enjoyed around a roaring outdoor fire under the stars. Ask Katie if you'd like to join a bat walk or borrow a bat detector to listen to some of our night-time visitors. So whether you are looking for the ultimate glamping (glamorous camping) experience, a romantic getaway or just a fun break away with your family you can find everything you need at Blackdown Yurts. Click to watch our photofilm and experience our yurt holidays for yourself. In addition to our wonderful yurts we also have four beautifully restored thatched cottages adjacent to the main farmhouse that are available for self-catering breaks. So if you're looking for something a bit more luxurious or just some extra accommodation for the family why not take a look at www.halsbeerfarm.co.uk or contact Katie via the contact page for more details.

Good morning and hello September!

We have had the most amazing blackberries this year. So sweet and so abundant. Top tip: if you want to forage blackberries while staying at Blackdown Yurts book Woodpecker as there are usually loads on the bank behind the yurt!

I’ve been freezing lots of blackberries to use with last year’s bumper apple crop much of which is still in the freezer. So far I’ve made a blackberry and apple crumble cake (served with clotted cream), blackberry and apple compote for breakfast with Greek yoghurt and granola with nuts and seeds and a blackberry and apple fool. All with no added sugar as the apples and blackberries have been sweet enough on their own.

We still have midweek stays this month and weekends available towards the end of the month. Come and enjoy an Autumn stay in the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. We look forward to seeing you.

As the days get shorter and the nights cooler it's a gorgeous time to curl up in the round with the twinkly lights on and the log burner lit. We have midweek stays available next week from Monday 31st August if you have a few more days of holiday to enjoy before school goes back and fancy a last minute getaway.

The first two weekends of September are fully booked but we have stays available on the weekends of 18th/19th and 25th/26th September and our final weekend of the season which is 2nd/3rd October.

Midweek stays are available throughout September. Read our latest newsletter to find out What's On near us in September and for an upgraded discount offer from Diggerland Devon.
