It is time for me to close ‘The Herdwick Huts’ @ Rydal.
I have met some truly wonderful people and am so grateful to all that have stayed.
The huts were never a business to me. I always referred to my work as a livelihood. It felt more honest and alive. I have thoroughly enjoyed cleaning and preparing them for all the many guests I have met over the years. I have also thoroughly enjoyed working alongside all the wonderful friends who have helped me clean them.
My idea all those years ago was originally in response to the housing crisis in Ambleside as there are so many second homes. I thought to myself, what do people exploring this stunning landscape need for a weekend?
A comfy bed, inspiring scenery and a wood burning stove to stay warm. My aim was to give people the exquisite experience of simplicity. Nothing complicated or distracting. The term ‘Glamping’ didn’t exist back then.
My little huts have been a wonderful livelihood that have allowed me to stay in the Lakes and raise my boys. I have truly loved every minute!
My heart now wants a new adventure……..moving my full energy into offering well being and yoga in my forest yurt. ‘Moved By Life’ is appropriately the name of this next venture.
Change certainly feels a little more scary as I get older, however by honouring ourselves, we honour others, and I’m too old school to operate in the modern day ways of the Glamping industry.
Here’s to endings and new beginnings and the inevitability of change.
Have a fantastic New Year!
