🍔 When you go to The Anchor Inn for a nice sensible lunch… and then completely lose control. 😂

I went for the bacon cheeseburger with skin-on fries and coleslaw… which, to be fair, was already more than enough. 🤤

But then I saw the onion rings.

And apparently I have absolutely no self-control. 🤣🧅

The burger was fantastic, the fries were spot on, the coleslaw was delicious and those onion rings were the final (very unnecessary) addition to an already massive plate!

Another cracking meal at The Anchor Hotel - Kippford — definitely worth a visit if you're around Kippford. 🍔🍟

Stop your car on this Ayrshire road, release the handbrake, and it rolls uphill. Except it doesn't.

On the A719 in South Ayrshire, just south of Dunure, a quarter-mile stretch of road is known as the Electric Brae. Park in the layby, let go of the brake, and the car appears to creep slowly uphill, back toward the corner and the sea. Locally the spot is called Croy Brae.

It is an optical illusion. The inland end of the stretch sits about 17 feet higher than the coastal end, a gradient of roughly 1 in 86. But the land around it slopes in a way that makes the road look tilted the opposite way. The car is rolling downhill. Your eyes insist otherwise.

The name comes from an old belief that some electric or magnetic force inside the hill was overcoming gravity. "Brae" is the Lowland Scots word for a hillside. There was never any force at work, only a trick of the horizon.

South Ayrshire Council built the layby, and a stone beside it now explains the illusion. Gravity hills like this exist in many places around the world.

Your eyes say uphill. Gravity says otherwise.
