⚠️ Wildfire update – Public information

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continues to respond to the ongoing wildfire within the Cairngorms National Park. There are currently nine fire appliances at the scene, supported by specialist wildfire resources, as firefighters work alongside partner agencies to tackle the incident.

As emergency service operations continue, we are asking the public to take note of the following important information:

🚨 Smoke advisory – Tomintoul
Residents in Tomintoul are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke from the wildfire.
If you are affected by smoke, stay indoors where possible, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. For further health advice, please follow NHS Highland.

🏠 Evacuation update
As a precaution, residents in the small area of properties north-west of Dorback Lodge (Lain Thatchan) are being evacuated. Residents are being directed to a dedicated respite centre at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

🚜 Request for plant machinery
Operators who can provide suitable plant machinery to support the ongoing multi-agency response are asked to report to the Village Hall in Nethy Bridge.

⚠️ Please continue to avoid the affected areas while firefighting operations remain ongoing. The area remains unsafe due to active firefighting operations, rapidly changing fire behaviour and helicopter activity.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as emergency services and partner agencies respond to this incident.

Heading to the this summer? Let’s talk about passing places! 🚗🏔️

Our single-track roads are iconic, but they only work smoothly if we all play by the same rules. If you are exploring the Highlands, keep these three golden rules in mind:

Stay to the Left: Always pull into the passing place if it’s on your left. If the passing place is on your right, do not cross the road, just wait opposite it so the oncoming vehicle can manoeuvre around you.

Let People Overtake: It’s not just about oncoming traffic! If a vehicle is behind you, pull into the next passing place on your left and let them past. Locals might be heading to work, delivering goods, or responding to emergencies.

Never park in a Passing Place: It can be tempting to pull over for a quick photo or a walk, but blocking a passing place creates a dangerous bottleneck. Use designated laybys instead!

Let's keep the Highlands moving safely and politely. Give a little wave, share the road, and enjoy the journey! 👋💙

Dear Guest,

As we enter a busier period, we kindly recommend making reservations in advance, as walk-in availability may be limited.

For the best dining experience, guests are encouraged to dine between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. As all dishes are freshly prepared to order on the premises by a single chef, waiting times during peak periods may occasionally be longer than usual.

At The Wee Choo-Choo, we proudly serve authentic Southern Thai cuisine using traditional family recipes passed down through generations. Unlike many Thai restaurants, everything is homemade on the premises, with each dish prepared fresh daily using carefully sourced ingredients. Many of our key ingredients are imported directly from Thailand, with some speciality items air-freighted weekly to ensure the authenticity and quality of our food.

As we prepare fresh ingredients and dishes each day in limited quantities, certain menu items may become unavailable once sold out. When it’s gone, it’s gone for the rest of the evening.

Our pricing reflects the quality of our ingredients, the care taken in preparing every dish from scratch, and our commitment to delivering a truly authentic Southern Thai dining experience.

Reservations may be made via our website:

Please note that we operate a Challenge 25 policy and valid physical identification may be required. 🔞🪪

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you.

Yours sincerely,

The Wee Choo-Choo Team 🚂💐

The best part? You can experience it for yourself. From the sound of the whistle to the breathtaking views along the route, a trip on the Strathspey Railway is like stepping straight into your own Highland adventure (minus the plotting, of course… or maybe not 😉).

If you’re planning a stay with us, this is one experience you won’t want to miss. Who knows – you might just feel like a contestant on your own Highland escape!

If you’ve watched BBC’s The Traitors, you’ll have seen our railway play its part...

Our heritage railway has been used as a filming location for every series of BBC’s The Traitors. Contestants have travelled in the same carriages our visitors ride in today, and some of the most dramatic moments were filmed right here on our railway.

In series 1-4 contestants boarded our steam train at Boat of Garten station, in series 3 some were banished in our yard beside Boat of Garten station. In The Celebrity Traitors Finale, the celebrities boarded at Broomhill, our train provided the dramatic setting for the explosive onboard celebrity challenge!

Visiting the railway is a bit like stepping into the show itself. You are travelling in the same carriages the contestants did, through the same Highland scenery. This photo shows Claudia stood on the platform at our Broomhill Station, next to our train!

This spring, you can experience the journey for yourself 🌼🚂

Join us for a scenic steam* train ride through the Cairngorms, perfect for a relaxed day out with family or friends.

📅 Running daily (except Fridays) throughout the rest of April and May
