A few photos of PS Waverley during her time in Dartmouth last week. In fact, these were taken by us on the morning of her departure on Thursday 3rd September as we walked back to our holiday cottage - The Old Wash House - after breakfast at Cafe Alf Resco.

It was a muggy, grey morning and the sun was desperately trying to break through the cloud cover. Pops of colour from the beautiful planters along the Embankment add some interest to the scenes of preparation as the pilot boat and crowds waited…

Stand by for those funnels making some noise!!!!!! Sailing from town pontoon and set against a backdrop of the yacht Hermetica and her tall mast moored in Dart Harbour, PS Waverley has departed for her cruise along the coast via Torquay and Weymouth to England’s Jurassic Coastline.

Dartmouth Castle and St Petrox Church stand in a commanding position beside the mouth of the River Dart. Often seen from the exterior, and regularly featuring in photographs of Dartmouth, both are beautiful to visit inside and have a long history to share with you.

Set aside plenty of time for your walk and boat trip (whichever combination you use to go and come back) allow plenty of time to explore the history and views from the castle, take your camera, and enjoy drinks and a bite to eat at the Castle Tea Rooms afterwards. Just idyllic.

It takes approx 30 minutes to walk from The Old Wash House across town to Dartmouth Castle and St Petrox via Newcomen, Warfleet and Castle Roads……although…..we have been known to take almost an hour and a half on a sunny day as we’ve been enjoying the scenery and taking photos! Take your time….and enjoy this glorious corner of the world.
