It looks like we are in for a good show on Wednesday as we are in a really good place to see the eclipse. We have already seen 'shooting stars' from the Perseid Meteor shower this week and there are more to come. Beautiful clear nights for stargazing at the campsite.

The pub is where you need to be on Wednesday 12 August...Start Bay (including Torcross, Slapton Sands and Start Point) will experience a 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀𝗲. With around 95% of the Sun obscured by the Moon, South Devon offers one of the best front-row vantage points in Britain for this sunset celestial event 🌓⁣

Ends: 20:09 – 20:10⁣

Find an open spot along the coast with an unobstructed, low-level view toward the western/south-western horizon, such as Slapton Sands 🌘⁣

What fabulous campers we've had over the past few days. Thank you all. Wishing you safe journeys back home or on to your next site.
We were all treated to the beautiful full moon (and nearly full moon) appearing to rise from the sea over several warm evenings.

****************WE HAVE A BUS SERVICE AGAIN*****************

Thank you to all those who have lobbied so hard for a replacement bus service between Slapton and Dartmouth, and to Devon County Council for providing it:

We are subsidising a new summer season bus service, run by the operators Country Bus and Tally Ho, between Dartmouth Pontoon and Slapton village.

The new service will run from Monday 29 June through to Saturday 29 August 2026, and will include stops at Dartmouth Pontoon, Stoke Fleming, Blackpool Sands, Strete (King Arms car park), and Slapton village.

We are helping to fund the service following winter storms that washed away a large section of the A379 at Slapton, leaving the road impassable.

Country Bus and Tally Ho will jointly operate the service Monday to Saturday, with half-hour journey time routes from Dartmouth Pontoon (to Slapton village) at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4:30pm.

Journeys from Slapton village (to Dartmouth Pontoon) will run at 9:30am, 11am, 1pm, and 2:30pm.

Country Bus will operate the service Monday to Friday, and Tally Ho will run the service on Saturdays during the summer season period.

The new service will complement Stagecoach’s 93 service which will continue to operate at existing times between Dartmouth and Strete before continuing onwards to Kingsbridge.

What a beautiful day! Perfectly captured by the Start Bay Inn - I may have to nip down for my favourite, Sweet Chilli Fishcakes and salad, a cold glass of lager and a lie on the beach.
