Sand & Stone Escapes is a curated collection of design-led home stays ideal for romantic retreats, friend-filled holidays or family breaks. At a time when so many people are disenchanted with unimaginative holiday lets and un-homely

hotels, we decided to shake things up. Located in the prettiest parts of Cornwall, Devon, the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire and Isle of Skye, every property is surrounded by rolling hills or roaring waves, and each interior has been specifically designed to reflect its magnificent surrounding countryside. So much more than holiday homes, our properties exist because taking a break is rare - as is finding somewhere unique, stylish and memorable to stay. A fairytale farmhouse tucked away in the Nottinghamshire countryside, designed for gathering your favourite people together. Think fun rosé lunches, evenings spent around the pizza oven, films in your own private cinema house, and mornings that start with a coffee before a session in the Nordic sauna.
 
And when you’re ready to slow down even more? Sink into the wood-fired hot tub, surrounded by wildflowers, and forget about the rest of the world for a while.

This is exactly what staying at Cart Shed in Bibury is all about.

Sleeping up to six guests, this former cart shed has been fully restored and transformed by Blake Architects and Pippa Paton Design. Tucked away within walking distance of one of the Cotswolds’ most iconic villages, it’s the kind of place that makes switching off feel very easy.

Arguably one of the quirkiest escapes in our collection... The Yellow House

This retro-inspired hideaway has incredible interiors, but if we’re honest, it’s the outdoor space that completely steals the show for us.

Think a rooftop sundeck with oversized yellow cushions, a butter-yellow wood-fired hot tub, a sauna hidden amongst the trees and a sunken fire pit made for long evenings drinking, laughing and storytelling into the night...

Pack up the car – and the dogs – it’s time for a weekend in Bibury.

This postcard-perfect pocket of the Cotswolds is all honey-stone cottages, riverside walks, little coffee spots and sunny corners made for doing absolutely nothing besides soaking up the country air (preferably with a picnic in hand).

Spend your days wandering between independent shops and long lunch spots, feeding the ducks by the river and settling into that slower countryside pace. And when you stay at Old Hay Barn, you can leave the car behind entirely – no parking stress, no designated driver, no cutting lunch short. After seeing these photos, we know exactly where we’d host a baby shower.

A weekend at Wood Farm House looked like breakfast tables covered in pastries and coffee, portrait-painting sessions that turned competitive in the silliest way, endless board games, countryside wine runs, and a sink somehow overflowing with Whispering Angel by the end of the night.

This week is all about a night on us… and this one’s for the Cotswolds.

If you know Sand & Stone, you’ll know just how many of our escapes are tucked away in this part of the world, so we couldn’t not make the most of it.

From Broadwell and Burford to Tetbury, Bibury, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chastleton, these are the kinds of places you come back to time and time again.
Classic villages, beautiful cottages, and, of course, more than a few very good pubs along the way.
