Dinnet Bridge closed 22-23 October!!

Amey Consulting Ltd will be carrying out a detailed two-day inspection of Dinnet Bridge on Wednesday and Thursday next week (Oct 22-23).

Due to the narrow width of the bridge it will have to close between 9am and 5pm on both days.

Owing to the requirement that a diversion must divert to roads that are the same class, the recommended detour is via Ballater.

We appreciate that working on Dinnet while Aboyne Bridge remains closed to motorised vehicles will cause some inconvenience to road users, but we would ask that you bear with us as this work is critical for managing the bridge and planning for its future.

URGENT UPDATE 8.30AM 18.9.25

Due to an unforeseen delay with the specialist underbridge inspection vehicle, the works at the B979 Boat of Hatton Bridge on September 22-23 and the B9158 Dinnet Bridge on September 24-25 have had to be postponed.

These works will be rescheduled for a later date in the coming months.

________________________________

Advance notice for road users on Deeside that we will be carrying out a detailed two-day inspection of the half joints on Dinnet Bridge on September 24-25.

Due to the narrow width of the bridge it will have to close between 9am and 5pm on both days – however as with previous works, inspections will stop to allow the school home run to pass through.

Owing to the requirement that a diversion must divert to roads that are the same class as the one that is closed, the recommended detour is via Ballater.

We appreciate that working on Dinnet while Aboyne Bridge remains closed to motorised vehicles will cause some inconvenience to road users, but we would ask that you bear with us as this work is critical for managing the bridge and planning for its future.

Meanwhile, various testing at Aboyne has now been completed including a ground penetrating radar scan of the main span deck and further investigations of the hinge on the main span and the southern flood arches.

Laboratory testing of reinforcement samples to confirm the yield strength has also been undertaken and following review of the data gathered from the GPR, trial pits were excavated to verify the results by examining the condition of the concrete and exposed reinforcement in key areas.

Our consultants are continuing to progress with the design – supported by the outcome of the testing to minimise action required.

The anticipated programme timeline has also been updated as follows:

Design and independent check: March 2025 – January 2026
Tender: February 2026 (subject to committee approval and available funding)
Award: April 2026
Construction: May 2026 – January 2027
