Did you know that Dittisham has its very own plum? And we are very lucky to have some of our own trees here in our orchard.

The 'Ditsum plum', also known as the 'Ploughman plum' is a rare, local heritage variety that grows almost exclusively in our village of Dittisham, next to the River Dart, here in South Devon.

Famous for its fleeting 10-harvest in early to mid-August, it features a rich, sweet flavour and a honey-grape aroma.

The exact origins of the Dittisham plum are vague and only being available from our little riverside village suggests that it's not a native species! Theory suggests that the plum is linked to the German 'Pfaummen Baum' plum which gave rise to the 'Ploughman' name, while a number of local stories have linked the trees to the trade of prunes as well as the salvage of wrecked cargo.

They are absolutely delicious and sadly are coming to the end of their 2026 season already. However, we've picked as many as we can and we hope to have some exclusive Dittisham Hideaway plum jam in our onsite honesty shop very soon!!

This is an EXTREMELY serious find in the woodland area behind one of our treehouses today!! It's only been put there recently, as we check the area regularly.

This has made us so sad 😢 The whole country is experiencing unprecedented hot weather, many parts of the country are in drought and wild fires are happening daily, yet one of our guests has taken it upon themselves to set fire to a branch of wood!!! 🔥

We havent stopped guests using our wood-fired hot tubs, BBQs or fire pits, as we understand these are part of the experience of a stay with us. This this isn't even one of our approved fuels for any of the above, it's a branch of wood!! And its been discarded in a very flammable area of the site.

We dread to think what could have happened 😳

PLEASE could we ask all of our guests just to stop and think about actions like this.

🎉The 70th birthday celebrations continue🎉

We welcomed some wonderful VIP guests a few weeks ago to stay in our beautifully restored original 1956 American Airstream 1234. They too were celebrating their 70th birthdays! 🎈

We were very grateful that they chose to spend a few days with us here at Dittisham Hideaway 🥳

🌳 Meet the team here at Dittisham Hideaway 🌳

Being a small family-run business there are only a few of us that you might see around the site during your stay with us.

Rob: in his 'spare' time (when he's not working full time in his normal job) you will find him fixing things or adding new bits to the site (Kate is ensuring he never runs out of things to do!!) 🛠

Janine: looking after the most important thing, making sure your treehouse/shepherd hut/Airstream is clean and spotless ready for your arrival. When she's not getting things ready for guests arrivals, she can be found running along the Dartmouth waterfront 👟

Oscar: when he's not at school you will most likely see him around the site organising a game of hide and seek, football or various challenges! He loves to keep active ⚽️

Arthur: Also currently at school full time, but loves to say hi to guests and to find out if they are enjoying their stay. Loves chocolate! 🍫

Kate: doing her best to hold everything together, including looking after the marketing and bookings and all of the operational tasks, oh and a bit of paying invoices here and there too!

We are a friendly bunch 🤪 so please do say 'hi' (if you want to, that is!) if you see us around during your stay 🏡

🌳 We have absolutely loved welcoming so many of you over the half term holidays, thank you for choosing to stay with us.

We have some beautiful countryside right on our doorstep, including some wonderful walks.

At every turn and over every hill there is another photo opportunity, a sea view across to Dartmouth or to Paignton or the glorious array of flowers and vegetation to admire.

Whether you're visiting us solo, as a couple, with your four-legged friend or with energetic children in tow, a countryside walk is sure to please everyone.

And after a long walk, what could be better than coming back to your treehouse, Airstream or shepherd's hut and relaxing by the fire or in the warmth of the wood-fired hot tub.
