We have lots of lovely forests and local rivers to cool off in!

With the heatwave continuing, I thought these might come in handy

Here are 8 of my top 25 paddle spots in North Wales (part 1).
Every spot is easy to access (no more than a 30-minute walk) and has a shallow area, beach or riverbank where little ones can safely paddle. As always, rivers and waterfalls can change dramatically after heavy rainfall, so please take extra care and check conditions before visiting.

📍1. Rhiwargor Waterfall
Several paddle spots along the walk to the waterfall, plus stepping stones and a shallow area at the bottom.
📍2. Erddig Country Park
Park for free in the NT car park and follow the woodland route to a lovely little river with grassy banks perfect for a picnic.
📍3. Ceunant Llennyrch
One of our favourite waterfall walks, with a beautiful plunge pool at the bottom that’s ideal for paddling.
📍4. Cwmorthin Quarry
A waterfall right by the car park with a small paddle spot, plus a lake further up at the quarry where the girls love to splash about.
📍5. Coed y Brenin
A short, pram-friendly walk leads to a gorgeous picnic spot with plenty of paddling opportunities.
📍6. Dol Idris
This stunning turquoise river at the foot of Cadair Idris is one of our favourite places to cool off on a hot day.
📍7. Llyn Parc
A bit more of a walk, but this mountain lake above Betws-y-Coed is absolutely worth the effort. Perfect for paddling or a wild swim.
📍8. The Watkin Path
Most people know about the Watkin Pools, but there are also lots of quieter paddle spots further down the river towards the campsite.

Just a few minutes’ walk from the holiday home you’ll find a fantastic fish & chip shop — perfect after a day exploring the mountains, coast, or market town streets 🐟🍟
