Are you ready... for the “-ber” months?

We are. We can’t wait.

Green turning to gold and brown.
Waterfalls flowing again.
Rosy cheeks after a day outside.
Warm, cosy pubs with the fire on.
Hearty meals.

“If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live.”

The famous quote Einstein apparently never made.

What is definitely true, though, is that there are still a lot of very lovely people on this earth - and we’ve had the absolute pleasure of meeting some of them this summer.

These gorgeous little egg cups were a Thank You gift from Roberto, Montse and their 10 year old daughter from Catalonia.

They stayed with us for four nights and loved the day trips we suggested to them.

Roberto is a beekeeper back home, and Maia spotted our bee coasters as soon as they arrived.
That created an instant connection: we talked with hands and feet (and a bit of Google Translate!) about bees, gardening, culture and languages and all sorts of other things.

To receive a small gift like this means more than you can imagine.

Not because of the gift itself, but because of what it represents.

Four nights of sharing our home. Conversations across languages. Recommendations, laughter and a little glimpse into each other’s lives.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we love what we do.

Sometimes you read a review that really strikes a chord.

That's exactly what happened this morning when we read this message:

"Our second visit, lovely place and so well looked after. Ian and Hanneke are very professional and take pride in all they do. Thank you for making our stay great again."

And then they sent us this private message:
"Just want to say thank you for everything, look after yourself and see you again sometime." ❤️

Moments like these remind us why we do what we do.

Hi! 👋 If you're new around here, welcome to Plas Isa.

We're Ian and Hanneke, the couple behind this little hostel in the heart of Dolgellau.

In 2018, we took over Plas Isa and slowly built "The place we would like to stay in ourselves."

Having travelled quite a bit and stayed in many hostels ourselves, Plas Isa is the result of endless lists of ideas done over the years.

When we're not welcoming guests, you'll probably find us out walking, watching football, or attempting to keep the garden under control… followed by a coffee and a chat on the picnic bench.

We absolutely love this corner of Eryri National Park.
And sharing it with you, makes our day.
On this account we hope to inspire you to explore Eryri, show you things to do around Dolgellau, our favourite local spots and, of course, a glimpse into what it's like to stay at Plas Isa.

So, if you love being active in the great outdoors, exploring and discovering new places, we're very happy you're here.
