Autumn is a great time of year to explore waterfalls. Perhaps this year more than ever, after such a dry summer.

What are our favourite waterfall walks around Dolgellau?

Where is your favourite waterfall?

Whenever we have friends and family come to visit, we like to take them on our favourite walks and visit different places.

It gets slightly tricky, when they have been coming for years, some even several times a year, to find new places.

But again, we were successful 👍🏼

⭐And we will definitely be adding this one to our favourites list.

Not just because it's a nice walk along the river, but it includes a scenic drive (A470 - A487 - B4405) and has a great pub for lunch or just a drink, nearby at The Railway Inn Abergynolwyn

📍 Dolgoch Falls
1 3/4 miles - approx 1,5 hours. We took it very easy as it was slippery in places.

is why we look forward to
autumn in Dolgellau

The trees and shrubs are getting ready for winter.
The bracken is turning brown.
And the leaves are starting to put on a proper show.
Wild mushrooms, acorns and conkers are everywhere.

And then there’s the best bit…
Even the popular walking routes get quieter.

Especially during the week, you can find yourself with very few people around — just you, the hills and those spectacular views.

It gives us a little more time to enjoy our favourite walks too.

So yes, we might be slightly biased…

But how lucky are we to have all of this right on our doorstep? 🍂🥾

Fancy seeing a bit of history with your own eyes?

Walk through an old, deserted hamlet in the hills above Barmouth, where you can still see traces of how people lived up here, not so long ago.

Gell Fechan is one of those places that makes you stop and wonder what life must have been like here.
