❤️ Why we started Hawthorn Hideaway… and why we keep going.
This photo is Ronnie and I in December 2013. I was heavily pregnant with Melody, completely unaware of how much our lives were about to change.
Melody arrived 2 months later, and just 3 months after this photograph, Ronnie was diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer has a funny way of making you look at life differently.
We wanted more time together, more time outdoors, to work alongside our nearest and dearest and build something of our own.
And from that, the idea of Hawthorn Hideaway was born. 🌿
The plan was for it to eventually become Ronnie's job after leaving his career as a Production Manager in the music industry, working with Metropolis Music and Live Nation. It took a few years, but in 2020 we finally opened.
Six years later, life hasn't quite followed the plan we imagined.
As Ronnie's cancer has worsened, things have become much harder. But Hawthorn Hideaway has kept him active and involved, given him something to focus on and new people to meet.
As he said to me recently, “What would I be doing all day while everyone else is at work and I can't drive?” 🤍
Hawthorn Hideaway has never been just a business to us. It's part of our family and our story.
Never did we imagine we'd be hosting intimate weddings and vow renewals, helping people propose, creating honeymoons and celebrations, building cinemas under the stars… or even taking our guests on boat trips! 🥰
We just keep creating and adding another little bit of magic whenever an idea pops into our heads.
We don't know what the future holds — and, if I'm truthful, we're usually far too busy to sit around worrying about it. I think that's helped keep us both sane through some very difficult times.
So we take one day at a time, one happy memory at a time… and one dark day at a time too.
Six years later, we're still here, still creating and still wondering what we'll dream up next. ✨
That's why we started Hawthorn Hideaway.
And that's why we keep going. 🤍
Keep your eyes peeled tonight… we have a little something special coming, and you could win a one-night stay for two at Hawthorn Hideaway. 🤍
