Dear customers,
Those who have supported our business and in turn family and community over the past 35+ years and any we comfortably welcome in the future,

A slightly different tone to this post!
Less than a stones throw from our beautiful building, on what is a main artery port road in Dover, Dover District Council have grated permission to McDonalds, who’s negatives for this particular site far out way any positive business it would bring. This is our view anyway.

There is still a fight to be had but only with additional support wider than that locally, and enough to contend with their resources. I ask you to support the best interests for this business, family and community.

Please check out the shared post and page to support further.

Thanks,
The Dimech’s

WE ARE AT A CRUNCH POINT WITH OUR BATTLE AGAINST MCDONALD'S BULLYBOY CLOWN.
Dover District Council have rebuffed our claims that once more they erred in law when granting planning permission for the Townwall Street Dover 24hrs Drive-Thru McDonald's.

As Dover District Council have chosen to rebuff our claims, we have been left with no alternative but to fight them in the Courts, to do this we need to raise a minimum of £10,000 in the next 24 hours as we have to file our case with the courts by Friday morning, August 29th.

If we can get 1,000 supporters to donate £10 each, we can meet our minimum target.

We are so grateful to all that have supported us and donated to our campaign. If you can help, please, we are fighting not just for Historic Dover, its wildlife and its residents health, but for the nation's identity - WE NEED TO STOP OUR COUNTRY FROM BECOMING McENGLAND WITH McDOVER BECOMING ITS FRONT DOOR!

We had some crazy thunderstorms last night and Dover was hit by a flash flood.
It has affected our basement but many people have been hit harder.

Roads in and out of town might have debris but otherwise everything seems to be moving if you’re travelling to or from today.

A great piece by Danny Bee about the Gateway Flats on seafront!

The Gateway Flats in Dover were completed in 1959. Over 200 council flats, with sea views and easy access to the sweeping, curving promenade by the harbour. There was some controversy at the time, …

What a start to the spring/summer season!
The wisteria was excellent this year, the weather has been the best this island has to offer.
Also added some photos of the irises in the car park and the ones pinched to go in our home ☺️

Best known as a ferry port and for its iconic white cliffs, there’s so much more to Dover

30/11/2024

Today would have been the 150th birthday of Sir Winston Churchill, a regular visitor to Dover and who was welcomed at the Maison Dieu on at least two occasions.

Firstly for lunch, after his official installation as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports on 14 August 1946, and a second time for his admission as an Honorary Freeman of Dover.

On both occasions he was greeted by large cheering crowds and a 19-gun-salute.

A fine portrait of him by Sir Bernard Hailstone has recently been conserved and will go back on display in the Stone Hall when the Maison Dieu re-opens in 2025.

In the Dover Museum collection is one of Winston Churchill’s cigar ends, smoked at his installation as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, in August 1946 and kept as a souvenir.

Also at the museum is an original programme, tied with crimson ribbon, from when he became an Honorary Freeman on 15 August 1951.

The Mayor of Dover William H Fish accompanied Winston Churchill onto the stage in a packed Connaught Hall, preceded by the Town Sergeant bearing the Mace, and the Town Crier carrying the Silver Oar of the Cinque Ports.

The honour was conferred upon him for ‘his courageous and inspiring leadership’ during the Second World War.

Winston was on good form, highlighting what a ‘great pleasure’ it was to ’receive from you this most honourable tribute’, and that he would ‘cherish this record of Dover, Fighting Dover with which I was associated in both these wars.’

The chair he sat in during his installation as Lord Warden is still also very much part of the furniture too, having pride of place in the Maison Dieu Council Chamber.
