The Oast

We purchased The Oast in 2017 and have refurbished the B&B and bar and will be creating an antiques and vintage workshop. We have turned the curtilage into a small-holding to raise sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks and grow our own fruit and vegetables for our own and our guests use. We farm using organic principles and wherever possible look for natural and nature driven methods to manage the land and animals. Our breakfasts and other food served at The Oast is home or locally produced. We aim to become increasingly more self-sufficient in our natural production of meat, eggs, vegetables and fruit.

We are situated close to the A2 and The Oast is ideally situated for cross channel ferries, Euro Tunnel or Eurostar passengers and cruise terminal passengers, all within 15 minutes drive. It also offers a central base for those wishing to explore the area further. Shepherdswell railway station offers a good London service, also excellent access to the channel ports, the channel tunnel terminal, the cruise terminal and the major motorway network.

The A2 dual carriageway offers rapid access to both the Port of Dover and Cathedral City of Canterbury, whilst the A256 offers access to the market town and Cinque Port of Sandwich. The coastal resorts of Deal, Walmer and St Margarets at Cliff are also close by.

The general area is renowned for its sporting, leisure and recreational facilities, with golf courses of national and international status, including Prince’s & Royal St. George at Sandwich.

The area is rich in history offering a wide range of attractions. Arranged along the coast are the ancient ‘Cinque Ports' from Rye to the south and into Sandwich in the north. In between lie sites and attractions representing every significant period of British history from Saxon times through to the Second World War, including England's largest and most impressive castle at Dover. The cathedral city of Canterbury and it’s shops are within easy reach.

Shepherdswell is situated on the North Downs Way and is a haven for walkers and cyclists. The Oast is an ideal stop over for those walking between Canterbury and Dover and for cyclists navigating the south coast or travelling to the continent. The Oast is also an ideal base from which to holiday on the Kent coast or visit France.

There are several bridleways crossing Shepherdswell and the area is favoured by riders. Depending on the time of year, we are usually able to stable up to 2 horses for guests staying at the B&B. Please enquire for availability and rates.

The East Kent Railway Trust is a heritage railway that run different types of vintage locomotives and carriages between Shepherdswell and Eythorne at various times in the year. Our on-site shop will be opening in summer 2018. We have a wide range of vintage, antique and collectables as well as up-cycled and restored furniture. We are able to deliver locally and to Kent and South East London (please ask for rates). There are a large number of antique and vintage dealers within easy reach in the Kent and south coast area. The Oast is ideal for a base from which to explore antique shops and find that bargain!
