People ask me all the time why there is no internet at Shepherds Rest. The answer is simple: I have watched guests arrive wired, phones in hand, unable to sit still for five minutes. Then I watch them two days later, stretched out by the fire with a book, talking properly again. That is why. The lack of signal is not an accident. It is the entire point. When you cannot check your phone every thirty seconds, your mind starts working differently. You notice the rain on the roof. You hear the fire crackle. You actually taste your coffee. I have seen it happen hundreds of times. This is not a campsite with bad coverage. This is a refuge with none at all. Come and enjoy.

Dogs do not pay a penny to stay here.

Your dog is welcome at Shepherds Rest. In the bar. In the cottage. On the pitches. In the play garden out back. No charge. No deposit. No rules except the usual ones about keeping them under control. I have watched dogs walk themselves straight to the bar door on arrival because they remember the fire from last time. That is the kind of repeat custom I like. Plenty of walking routes nearby, and if they get muddy, the underfloor heating in the amenities block sorts that out quickly.

October through March, most campsites in Northern Ireland close up. We do not. The underfloor heating in the amenities block stays on all winter. The pub fire is lit every evening. The pitches stay open except for nine days at Christmas. If you own a campervan, caravan, roof tent or tent and only use it for six months because nowhere is open in January, you might want to rethink that. I am here year-round, and so are the heated showers.
