For our international visitors this year, please note the following changes:
Starting today, January 8, 2025, the UK's Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is now in effect for travellers from 48 countries that previously enjoyed visa-free access to the UK. This new digital registration scheme requires visitors to apply and pay a fee before traveling to the UK for short stays of up to six months.
Key Points about the UK ETA:
• Cost: £10 (approximately $13 or €12)
• Validity: 2 years or until passport expiration, whichever comes first
• Application: Online or via the UK ETA app
• Processing Time: Up to 3 days
• Required for: Tourism, business, short-term study, and transit
The ETA is mandatory for all travellers, including infants and children, from eligible countries. Please note that having an ETA does not guarantee entry into the UK; travellers must still pass through passport control.
For EU citizens, including Swiss nationals, the ETA requirement will come into effect on April 2, 2025. British and Irish citizens, as well as those with existing UK visas or immigration status, do not need to apply for an ETA.
This new system aims to enhance border security and streamline the UK's immigration process. Travelers are advised to obtain their ETA before booking their trip to avoid any issues at the border.
