A new whisky from The Cabrach Distillery.

McBain.

A family name synonymous with and a place on Balvenie Street in Dufftown renowned for being a “purveyor of the finest malts”; a Mecca for whisky connoisseurs.

L & C Mcbain’s is a family story.

Lennox McBain was born at Kirkton, Cabrach, in 1934, the fourth of seven children, and was schooled locally before entering the grocery trade, aged 16, selling all sorts of goods from his well-stocked van.

He travelled around Dufftown, Cabrach and the surrounding area for 13 years, before taking over the Dufftown grocery store in 1968 where he spent more than 40 years behind the till.

Today, Charles & Kathleen McBain preside and, same as it ever was, a warm welcome awaits. Charles, like his father before him, loves nothing more than speaking with locals and visitors alike about the different whiskies on the shelf. As of today, there’s a brand new addition to talk about…

My journey towards Dufftown

Places I have visited on my way north towards my next adventure in life. It all started when I began looking for a suitable property to purchase. My lovely Uncle accompanied me on this project.

Our first port of call: Hadrian’s Wall. It was extremely cold for April, and we almost froze during the night! The camping equipment we had just did not cut the mustard. So on our way up, we stopped at a camping store in Gretna Green. They did not have exatly what we wanted, so we settled on a couple of cheap double dovets instead!
