Arden Holiday Cottage We are a board game holiday cottage located in the peaceful surroundings of Irongray, Dumfries UK.

We offer a Unique Escape Room experience and Geek Retreat / Board Game Packages. Near to 7 Stanes trails for Mountain Biking & beautiful countryside walks We are Hester and Paul, the proud owners of Arden Holiday Cottage since 2019 and we are hoping to meet lots of new faces. The cottage has been refurbished and decorated throughout, ready to make our cottage your favourite bolt hole for some stre

ss-free time and happy memories. Hester likes to spend time with the horses and enjoys finding ways to help people improve their mental health through meditation, Reiki and spending time in nature. We will be offering Relax and Chill Breaks during the year for those who just need space to reboot. We don’t watch TV much and would much rather play board games and find challenging Escape Rooms to break out of. There is a games cupboard here at the cottage with lots of family favourites such as Monopoly, Yahtzee and many others. For more serious gamers, then we offer the Geek Retreat, Leisurely Legacy, Carry on Campaigning and Boardgame Bonanza.

This weekend saw us on our annual trip to UK Games Expo 2026, the UK’s largest hobby games convention. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore new board games, meet designers and publishers, and gather fresh inspiration for Arden’s Board Games Holiday Geek Retreat. Events like this help us keep our games library current, varied and exciting, while also giving us ideas for creating fun, inclusive gaming experiences for our guests. It was also lovely to be part of such a creative and welcoming gaming community.

One of our real highlights from UKGE 2026 was being lucky enough to meet the designer and artist behind our new favourite game, Kavango by Mazaza Games. We had such a great chat and were given a demonstration of the upcoming expansion, Kavango Lodges, which looks absolutely brilliant. We immediately signed up for a copy through Gamefound and are already excited for it to arrive.
What surprised us most was that the designers had actually heard of Arden Holiday Cottage! They had been looking for somewhere to stay and game, and already knew all about us — such a lovely moment and a real reminder of how special the board gaming community can be.

We still have some availability in May, June and July, including May half-term.

Nestled in a quiet rural location in Dumfries & Galloway our cottage is ideally situated for rambling, bird watching, mountain biking, climbing, horse riding, golfing and exploring. The stunning coastline of South West Scotland is just twenty-five minutes away, where you can choose between sandy beaches or quiet coastal villages. The surrounding area is steeped in local history, with fabulous castles, abbeys, and many other visitor attractions.

Arden Holiday Cottage has been equipped to a very high standard with quality fitments. We are south-west facing with ample parking, a private patio, and an enclosed garden area. The cottage sleeps five people comfortably with a double, twins, single room, bathroom, and a separate toilet and shower room. We can also provide a travel cot for the little ones.
