We’re thinking about changing the Miners Hall Retreat logo and thought we’d put it out there and see what people prefer.

The original logo (right) is the one we’ve used from day one, so it’s obviously got a bit of history with us.

The other (left) is a new design we’re considering, with more of an old-fashioned mining and heritage feel to it.

Which one would you go for?

Stick with the original or change to the new one?

There’s no right or wrong answer. We’d just be interested to hear what people think and why.

🔥 Cosy nights are coming to The Miner’s Hall Retreat… 🔥

As summer slowly begins to draw to a close, our beautiful Miner’s Hall stove will soon be lit again, creating those wonderfully warm and cosy evenings for our guests. 🪵🔥✨

What are they thinking…?

The young soldier looks ahead, but his mind is somewhere else.

“Will I ever walk these streets again?”

The miner beside him hides his worry behind a smile.

“He’s just a lad… I hope this war is over before Christmas.”

The young mother, pushing her pram, glances towards the soldiers.

“Please let my husband come home safely… our little one hardly knows his father.”

An older woman watches from the gate of the Miners Hall.

“I’ve already said goodbye to one son… I pray I don’t lose another.”

The little boy standing by the railings is fascinated by the uniforms.

“One day, I’ll be a soldier too.”

The horse plods steadily along, unaware that the world is changing around it.

The stray dog simply wonders…

“Will somebody throw me a piece of bread today?”

The children don’t fully understand what is happening.

To them, today is another adventure.

To the adults…

It could be the last time they ever see some of these young men.

The Miners Hall has seen laughter.

It has seen weddings.

It has seen dances.

It has seen farewells.

Today, it watches another generation leave its doors, carrying hope, fear and courage in equal measure.

Some of those men will return to South Moor…

Others will live on only in photographs such as this.

🌿 A Little Update for Our Guests at Miners Hall Retreat 🌿

As part of our ongoing commitment to making Miners Hall Retreat even more beautiful for our guests, our lawn is currently undergoing a renovation programme. 🌱

Over the last few years, while the extensive restoration of the retreat was taking place, the lawn unfortunately didn’t receive the level of care it deserved. We’re now putting that right by treating the lawn to remove weeds and encourage healthy new grass to grow.

You may notice that the grass is a little longer than usual. This is intentional, as we’re allowing the treatment to work before giving it its next cut.

😊 Please be assured that the lawn is still perfectly fine to use and enjoy during your stay.

We’re also delighted to say that we now have a dedicated gardener who is caring for the gardens and grounds throughout the seasons, ensuring they continue to flourish and provide a beautiful setting for everyone to enjoy. 🌸🌼

Big milestone today at Miners Hall 🙌✨

From bare ground to something truly special… and we’ve captured it all on video 📹👀 The transformation of our brand-new grand entrance has been incredible to watch from start to finish.

Featuring large stone pillars 🪨, beautifully crafted stone walls, and even a classic red post box built right in 📮 — every detail has been carefully designed to complement the character of the building.

And the lighting… wow 🌟 It completely transforms the space at night, giving a warm, welcoming glow. We honestly can’t wait for you to see it after dark 🌙

The new entrance is now complete and it looks outstanding. It really does the Miners Hall justice and beautifully complements the building ❤️
