Our Story

The Town House is an opulent Grade II-Listed Georgian town house located in Durham’s charming Old Elvet area. The 18th century town house has 11 bespoke bedrooms, each offering a very different experience, including three exclusive rooms in the garden with their own private hot tub. This really is the perfect indulgence in a romantic break right in the heart of the city, with Durham Cathedral and the 11th-century castle within 10 minutes’ walk, should you decide to leave the room.

We offer a range of delicious options in our restaurant including our made-to-order Afternoon Teas with fresh sandwiches and pastries or truly indulge with our Champagne Afternoon tea with a glass of Jacquart Brut Mosaique Champagne; arrange a private dining experience for your next special occasion; or relax and unwind over breakfast after staying with us in one of our 11 bespoke bedrooms.

Whether you choose to say your ‘I Do’s’ at the local registry office or local church, our self-contained venue, with your own bar and restaurant, can host your wedding breakfast and evening entertainment for up to 30 people.

One fabulous bonus of holding your celebration at The Town House is that you are able to book all eight bedrooms in the hotel building itself for you and your guests.
