Do you have a particularly strong Yorkshire memory?

For us, Yorkshire has been woven through different chapters of our lives.

Alastair remembers childhood holidays in Scarborough with his parents, especially the famous naval warfare battles in Peasholm Park. If you know, you know. Standing by the lake waiting for the explosions and miniature ships was always a highlight.

A good few years later, not long after we first started dating, we came to Scarborough for a weekend away together. We stayed at a wonderful little hotel called Interludes in the Old Town, where every room was themed around long-lost theatres. We spent the evening at the Stephen Joseph Theatre and still remember the trip fondly.

Then came family days out. Thanks to Alastair's railway staff pass, we made a number of trips to Scarborough with the children. Exploring Scarborough Castle, walking along the promenade, and spending far too many pennies in the arcades became family traditions.

Perhaps that's one of the things we love most about Yorkshire. The places stay the same, but the memories change as life moves on.

What about you?

What's your strongest Yorkshire memory? A childhood holiday? A favourite beach? A family tradition? Somewhere that always brings back happy memories?

We'd love to hear your stories.

The BBC is suggesting that much of the UK could be in for a warmer than average summer this year.

If that's how things turn out, there are worse places to spend a few days than North Yorkshire.

After a day exploring the coast at Whitby, Scarborough or Robin Hood's Bay, wandering the North York Moors, riding the steam trains from Pickering, or browsing the shops and cafΓ©s of Malton and Helmsley, you can return to Cliff House and slow the pace down a little.

Find a shady spot in the gardens with a book, enjoy a private swim in our indoor heated pool, challenge the family to table tennis or pool, or simply sit outside with a cold drink while the children make the most of the play area and woodland.

We still have availability in some of our larger family cottages during July, and just a couple of summer weeks remaining in Orchard House during August.

Close to Home. Far from Ordinary.

Looking for a family day out that's a little different?

Just 20 minutes from Cliff House Holiday Cottages, Eden Camp offers a fascinating journey through the story of Britain during the Second World War. Set within a former prisoner of war camp, the museum brings history to life through immersive exhibits, recreated scenes, military vehicles, and personal stories.

What makes it particularly good for families is that there's something for all ages. Children can explore, discover and ask questions, while adults often find themselves reading every display and sharing stories across the generations.

It's one of those places where you can easily spend a whole day, whatever the weather, and leave having learnt something new.

Have you visited Eden Camp before?

There’s something about the sound of a curlew that just belongs on the moors.

Today’s walk started and finished in Goathland, heading out across the open moorland before dropping down into the tiny hamlet of Beck Hole for a well-earned pint at The Birch Hall Inn. From there, it was back up the old railway incline to Goathland, famous to many as Aidensfield from Heartbeat, with ice cream waiting at the finish.
What surprised us most was the number of curlews we saw and heard along the way. Their distinctive bubbling call seemed to follow us across much of the walk, carrying over the heather and grassland.

Sadly, that sound is becoming less common. Curlews are now on the UK's Red List of Birds of Conservation Concern after significant population declines, making every sighting feel that bit more special.

If you've never heard a curlew calling across the North York Moors, turn the volume up for this one.
