This week we put the permanent Activity team through their 'Thorough Inspection and Record Keeping Course' for PPE management.
This is a vital course to ensure that all PPE is safe to use and managed well.
It was a delight to have Pete Knight to deliver the course from Peak Instruction.
Pete is a former YHA Edale Activity Centre employee who since leaving us over a decade ago has successfully set up his own business with his wife Beth, also a former staff member. Thank you for the excellent course.

Over the last 2 weeks we have had the pleasure of hosting 2 DofE Gold residential's.
A huge thank you to everyone involved, as the work they completed with decorating and site maintenance has been greatly appreciated and noted for the quality of the finished job.
We wish all the participants every success in the rest of their DofE journey.

What a team effort. By 10:30am we had managed to clear our drive and by lunch the car park was cleared. Impressive when we have over 500 metres of driveway!

All in preparation for a busy weekend, as we welcome competitors who are staying with us before they embark on the formidable Montane Winter Spine Race.

YHA Edale Activity Centre are looking to recruit Seasonal Instructors for the 2026 season.

What can YHA offer you?
⭐️£12.61 - £13.53 per hour (this will rise in line with National Minimum Wage) - pay will rise from base rate upon gaining Qualified Instructor status (qualified in 3 out 4 core NGB's plus D1+E)
⭐️The Seasonal Instructor role is a 25+ hours per week fixed term contract from late March – mid November 2026.
⭐️Ongoing training and development opportunities in work time, including funded NGB qualification courses.
⭐️Live-in accommodation, if required (the current staff accommodation charge is £69.83 per week).
⭐️10 nights free hostel stays per year for you and up to 3 friends or family.
⭐️Free YHA Membership each year.
⭐️Access to YHA’s staff discount and cash back portal.

What we're looking for:
⭐️Prior proven group experience (voluntary or paid) in adventurous outdoor activity delivery.
⭐️A valid 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid certificate.
⭐️A car driving license held for a minimum of two years.
⭐️Minimum Paddlesport Instructor and PSRC
⭐️And ideally training/assessment in at least one of these qualifications; Rock Climbing Instructor, Paddlesport Leader (or equivalent), Local Cave Leader

As we come out of meteorological autumn and enter into winter, this time of the year is the natural end to our season.
We are still pretty busy though, with plenty of groups and individuals staying with us over the winter.
We do however say goodbye to our seasonal staff both domestic and instructors, thank you so much for your hard work and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
