Fun story: we had a filming session today around the hostel. Our building will be spotted in the film Gareth Jones, coming out later this year.
It is a movie about a British journalist trying to uncover a massive conspiracy. The scene they filmed in our street
today features a demonstration. It look fabulous to have all those people in stylish clothes and the nice old cars all around! More info about the movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6828390/

No trip to Scotland's capital would be complete without a wee dram of Whisky or 'Uisge Beatha' meaning 'Water of Life'. This traditional tipple (not to be confused with Irish and American Whiskey) that's been drunk by Scots for centuries, is both warming in the winter months and refreshing in summer.

We've picked out some of the best bars and pubs to grab a dram (or two) in the capital.

Building The Baxter: A Labour Of Love at 5 West Register Street...

The Baxter is the first of its kind, a lovingly restored and restyled building boasting a boutique hostel located in the heart of Edinburgh’s World Heritage site. Over two years the Baxter brothers, fuelled by a passion to create the very best hostel experience, have crafted a uniquely styled, stunning and slightly eccentric hostel.

Stepping into the 5 West Register Street premises for the first time was like jumping back in time. Those stairs we were climbing were used for decades by the members of the ROAB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffalos), a Members club founded in the C19th for honourable and patriotic British gentlemen. Ci**rs, suits and war medals were commonplace back in the day and our goal was to replace them with backpacks, smartphones and city guides. In order to achieve that, we had to roll up our sleeves and get to work.

For more than a year, we ripped up floors, built beds, and covered the walls with the finest paints and wallpapers. Little by little, our six dorm hostel came together. After months and months of hard work, we could finally enjoy adding the finishing touches: hanging the paintings by Handiedan – an amazing Dutch artist – in the corridor and placing the Portuguese-inspired tiled tables in the living room. Once our lounge was complete we felt like the gentlemen of that might even enjoy this place and stop by for a whisky, someday.

Located in the heart of Edinburgh, The Baxter Hostel, with its traditional Georgian panelling, tartan wallpapers and ancient herringbone oak floors is the best place to stay to dive into the Scottish spirit. Just a few steps from Princes St, we’re within easy walking distance from all the main transport links and tourists attractions – including the Castle, The Royal Mile and Arthur’s seat. From the handmade, solid bed frames to the complimentary free range scrambled eggs at breakfast, everything is our hostel is made with love.
