Prestonfield House

Prestonfield House Just five minutes from the city centre, Prestonfield is Edinburgh's most exclusive 5-star hotel Described by Time Out as Edinburgh's star restaurateur.
(3481)

Built in 1687 as the grand baroque home of Edinburgh's Lord Provost, Prestonfield is now Edinburgh's most luxurious 5-star hotel . Opulence, theatre and luxury are combined in James Thomson's quirky and stylish reworking of this A-listed historic century mansion where minimalism is banished and maximalism rules! In addition to the dramatic bedrooms and sumptuous suites, you’ll discover the destina

tion restaurant - Rhubarb - alongside a collection of stunning private dining rooms, opulent salons and historic public rooms. Situated only ten minutes from Edinburgh's finest shopping streets and the historic attractions of the Royal Mile, yet, surrounded by twenty acres of gardens and parkland, it provides the privacy and seclusion of a country estate. Prestonfield is privately owned by the Witchery by the Castle's creator, James Thomson. His vision was to create a compelling alternative to bland, unexceptional hotels so Prestonfield is a very personal creation; of historic architecture, art and antiques, and décor every bit as rich and colourful as the history of the house itself. Prestonfield is a multi-award-winning hotel and has scooped an enviable array of the industry’s most prestigious accolades including the AA's highest grading, a rare 5 Red Stars, alongside Visit Scotland's 5 Gold Stars and regularly features in TripAdvisor's Traveller's Choice Awards. In 2015, Prestonfield was listed in the World’s Top 100 Hotels as well as collecting the award for Scotland Best Hotel. Luxurious & Individual Rooms & Suites
Each of the 23 luxurious and romantic bedrooms & suites is furnished in Prestonfield's trademark opulent and individual style with rich, warm colours and sensuously luxurious fabrics making them the most indulgent and romantic five-star hotel rooms in Edinburgh. All of Prestonfield's unique and romantic bedrooms feature a collection of antiques and individual characterful beds dressed with fine linen and piled high with cushions; as well as luxurious en-suite bathrooms, ample wardrobe space, a practical desk with free wi-fi and internet connections for when you must work, and ample comfortable seating and dining areas. Each room offers expansive views over Prestonfield's secluded gardens and parkland to Edinburgh's iconic hill, Arthur's Seat, over the adjacent golf course and Royal Holyrood Park or to the historic ruins of Craigmillar castle. Rhubarb, Edinburgh’s destination restaurant, delivers all of the gourmet delights, magic, drama and romance you would expect from the creator of the Witchery by the Castle. Wickedly rich and dramatic this stylish and oh-so glamorous restaurant occupies grand Regency rooms at the heart of Prestonfield. Discover a gourmet retreat with a reputation as the capital's most memorable dining experience. Alongside are a collection of chic bars and salons for cocktails, drinks or afternoon tea and some even more sumptuous drawing rooms in which to enjoy coffee and liqueurs. Exceptional Scottish produce, much sourced from small artisan suppliers, is handled with terrific skill and flair creating a gourmet destination with a reputation among the capital’s most memorable dining experiences. Rhubarb has a range of menus including a la carte and a very special dining offer – 3 courses at either lunch or dinner for just £36. There is also a fantastic two-course lunch menu at just £20 and traditional 2 course Sunday lunch for just £20. To accompany such accomplished cooking Prestonfield has an award-winning cellar and temptation lurks in the wine list of over 800 bins. From famous name wines for very special occasions to a hand-picked selection of 14 wines available by the glass, you’ll find your ideal dining companion within Rhubarb’s acclaimed list. And the name? Prestonfield was the first estate in Scotland to propagate rhubarb in the eighteen century. We still grow it, love it and it features on the menu whenever we can. Steeped in centuries of Scottish history, Prestonfield House stands on land once granted to the son of a king, forging an enduring royal connection still present to this day. Rebuilt in 1687 by Sir William Bruce, architect to the king, it soon enjoyed a distinguished position at the epicentre of Scotland’s political, social, business and artistic life. Closely tied to the Stuart court, and touched by the intrigue of the Jacobite era, this rich legacy continues to shape the atmosphere of the house today, echoed in Rhubarb where portraits of former residents line the walls.
