The Light House is a truly unique place to stay - our bright young team will welcome you to our beautiful Georgian townhouse bursting with character and charm. We have created a fusion of contemporary living space with good old fashioned family hospitality. Our guests often say its more like a family home than a hostel, with a laid back attitude and cosy friendly atmosphere. The Light House is the

place to chill out and make new friends. We are only 15 minutes' walk to Edinburgh Castle. The Light House is a loving, caring and sharing place to be - we donate 10% of our profit to a housing charity. So when you stay with us, you are also helping to provide homes for people in need. We are situated in the artistic area of the city centre. Nearby are 4 cinemas, 3 theatres, a concert hall, a wide selection of restaurants, bars, coffee houses and a co-operative super market that opens till 10pm for your essential supplies! We have a large back garden where we host regular campfires and BBQs - so bring your guitars and best (or worst) singing voices and join us for a good old sing along around the fire; dancing is optional! Or if its too wet outside you can relax in our spacious comfy lounge and enjoy a wide selection of movies on our home cinema system with HD projector and surround sound. We have a fully equipped self catering kitchen including a dish washer......so no need to wash up, Yey! We offer a free breakfast and complimentary tea and coffee all day, high speed Wi-Fi, access to a desk top computer, free lockers, linen, towels and shower gel. We operate a no shoes policy in The Light House to keep the house in spotless order, a shoe rack and slippers are provided at the entrance making it feel like a real home from home. We offer a variety of bright and spacious rooms ranging from a 4 bed dorm to a 10 bed dorm. Each room has a double bed to accommodate couples or families. Any guest under the age of 18 can stay in the private room with a family member who is over 21. The communal living areas are clean and cosy providing a great space to relax and unwind after a busy day of sightseeing. There is a no smoking policy throughout the hostel with smoking area out front. We are not a party hostel, so the communal areas are locked at midnight to ensure every guest gets a good nights sleep. Please be aware there are different booking conditions for August and New Year due to the Fringe and Hogmanay festivals; ask for details. We offer excellent long term and low season rates. Check-in is after 15:00 only - and till 22:00. Check-out by 10:30. Reception is open from 9:00 to 22:00. Cancellation policy is 72 hours in advance. Group Booking Policy:

Everyone needs somewhere to call home. Yet the cost of buying a house in the UK has increased beyond the reach of many ordinary people. At the Caledonian Foundation we've come up with a new, micro equity home ownership model that aims to tackle homelessness, fight repossession and make homes affordable again.

Take a minute to answer a few simple questions and help us forward our project. Pass it on!

Do you want to help provide homes for 40 homeless families with children this Christmas just by donating £10?

There are 14,000 children in homeless families living in temporary accommodation in Scotland at the moment. This is equivalent to 38 children becoming homeless each day!

The Light in the City Project is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of families who have fallen on hard times.

We have the opportunity to purchase St. Joseph’s House in the centre of Edinburgh. This property is on 1.48 acres including a main building with 120 rooms, various outbuildings and a functioning chapel in the garden.

Our vision is to create a community that works together to provide homes and jobs for the homeless, with a church at its centre to provide services, worship, spiritual and practical support.

Our goal is to turn this beautiful property and gardens into a peaceful and homely environment that has a three-fold purpose:

1. Provide short-term emergency accommodation for the homeless.

2. Establish a 360-bed tourists' hostel to generate funds and provide jobs for the homeless and marginalised.

3. Provide long-term accommodation with the option for residents to buy their home one share at a time without debt.

We need your help to do this!

As a start to our project, we hope to provide homes for 40 homeless families with children this Christmas.

However, we can’t realize this dream without raising the needed funds to purchase St. Joseph’s House.

We are securing a substantial bank loan, but we also need to raise £3m by 4th October 2018.

This seemingly-impossible task is possible if we all work together to contribute what we can towards the dream.

Our goal is to find 300,000 supporters who can each contribute £10. If each of us sends this message to twenty friends, who replicate the process, we can reach 3,200,000 people!

If just one person in ten donates £10, then we will hit our target!

Please donate and send this page on to your friends.

Let's show the homeless children of Scotland that miracles can happen and there is hope!

Urgent appeal:
The closing date to make a bid for this property is 4th October 2018. We still have some funding gap to meet the target.

We are looking for investors who share the vision of this project to fill the funding gap.

An investment into this project would receive 6% annual interest as well as Social Investment Tax Relief.

If you know anyone who may have funds to invest then please let us know. We will then send them the full Business Plan and Financial Projections.
