Small changes, big difference! We’ve recently had 4 of our rooms re carpeted, better sound insulation, better heat retention in winter, and overall cosier vibes. We absolutely love tartan carpets and we hope that you love them just as much ! Here’s the before and after for the Baird room and Scott room.

High Ceilings and Historic Charm

Step back in time without leaving modern comfort behind.

Built in 1876, our Victorian home is full of authentic Edinburgh character. Swipe through to see the gorgeous stained glass and the original ornate cornicing up in The Wallace Room.

After a busy summer day exploring the city, there’s nothing quite like sinking into one of our super kingsize beds for a brilliant night's sleep.

Edinburgh like a local - Hawksmoor

Loved this restaurant for many years ! Always great quality food and drinks and top notch service. However it was my first time branching out and trying something other than steak. I had a grilled monkfish and it was absolutely divine ! We also had a classic Caesar salad, scallops, steak and other great things ! I’ve yet to try their Sunday roast but I’ve heart great things.

Welcome to a new series we will be trying out called Edinburgh like a local, where we want to share some of our favourite places that we have tried recently that maybe aren’t in the typical tourist trails or guides.

This was our first time here after meaning to try for a long time and we were not disappointed. Great variety of vegetarian and meat / fish so there is something for everyone, and everything was absolutely delicious. The team were so helpful at recommending food & drink for us to try and we felt very welcomed from the second we opened the door.
Our top recommendations would be the dirty rice & Miso aubergine but actually everything was good so it was hard to pick a top two. We hope you get to try it out on your next visit to Edinburgh ! Bonne appétit 😄

One of the many privileges we have when choosing furniture for Ard Na Said is being able to chose nice vintage local pieces and some new local pieces to really add to warmth of the rooms and to allow these rooms to have the furniture they would have had when they were originally built.
For the Wallace room we were lucky enough to acquire this 3 piece bedroom furniture set from a family in Edinburgh. The furniture was actually made in Edinburgh on princess street and were honoured to let these pieces continue their story in Edinburgh.

The wool blanket is from a local business in Edinburgh and the tartan is the Edinburgh University tartan, and the two stag pillows were made by a local artisan at a crafts fair in Tighnabruaich.

One of our absolute fave views of Edinburgh is from Calton hill, right at the end of Princess street. Super easy to get to the top and check out the famous landmarks like Edinburgh’s disgrace. But honestly, taking in the view of the whole city is what makes it worth it.
