Here's an interesting little story to tell you about Online Travel Agents (OTA's), this includes the likes of Hotels,com and Bookin,com (misspelt on purpose)

Last week we had a no show, we don't often get them thankfully, said guest contacted us at 9pm on the day to say they wouldn't be coming. They had booked through an OTA. We have a 48 hour cancellation policy so the full amount was due to be paid. The following day I went to charge the card but realised that the OTA hadn't provided this. Naturally I called the OTA to retrieve card details, they claimed they didn't have them but would 'do their best' to get the money from the guest. I didn't have a lot of hope, but nevertheless I have been calling the OTA everyday. They have not provided me with the CC details as they claim they do not have them.

Fast forward to today I had a phone call from our no-show guest to ask for an invoice for the money he paid!!! Hmm, very confusing, I explained that we have not been paid at all, and said OTA has removed all of their details from our system and the OTA is refusing to pay us. He has assured me (and I believe him) that he has in fact paid.

Now, just imagine if this guest hadn't called me today, this OTA would continue to fob me off and LIE TO ME that they haven't got the guests payments. How many other hosts do they lie to!?

This of course is another reason to always book directly with the host, not only is it cheaper for you but there is a lot more flexibility with your reservation.

‼️5 year alert 🕒 How time flies‼️

🤩 A massive thank you to all of our amazing guests that have supported us by staying at Lossiemouth House B&B, many of whom have become friends 🤗.

🏡 Today's the day we celebrate living at Lossiemouth House B&B 🛏 🥓 🍳 for the last 5 years.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 A challenging journey 5 years ago began today, where we embarked on our 2 day journey from Hertfordshire to Lossiemouth via an overnight stop in Cumbernauld. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

😺😸Both cats were good as gold and slept most of time. 🐈🐅

👮The fun and games started when the van we were driving with all of our furniture, was stopped by police scotland 🚨somewhere on the A9, seemingly it was overloaded, this was consequently impounded and we were forbidden from driving it any further.
Thankfully we were also driving our car 🚙 up. Several hours later, Hugh, Alison, Shaun and our 2 cats piled into the car (which was also fully loaded) where we continued our journey onto Lossiemouth.
☎️We had tried to call the previous owner, Frances, to advise of our hiccup, but unfortunately BT, for once, were super efficient and had already disconnected the phone lines. With no other number to call her on we resorted to emailing her son in America 🇺🇸 hoping that he could somehow let them know that we were on our way...

🍻 We settled in really quickly and soon started to make friends in the local pub, The Steamboat. 🕺💃

🦧Receiving a 'Congratulations' letter from Douglas Ross, our local MP👏

📸 Having our photo and a write up about Lossie House in the Northern Scot and the Press & Journal newspaper 🗞

🛀 Upgrading the bathrooms, dining room and bedrooms🚿

🎥 We enjoyed appearing on The Gadget Show in 2022, despite them not showcasing our beautiful town. 🎬

✈ Having typhoons and P8s on our door step. ✈️

🏆 All of the wonderful reviews we receive from our lovely guests, these will never be taken for granted.🥇

🏖 When we are not hosting guests, we are kept really busy, Alison with her work with Tourism and Lossiemouth Business Association and Hugh with his cookery classes at Oakwood and a local school. 👨‍🍳

We often get asked, why we chose Lossiemouth? This is a very easy question to answer, and in no particular order:

✈️RAF Lossiemouth is 5 minutes away, great place for spotting.
🍻 And lastly, the beer is cheaper than in London 😂
