π¬ Help Protect the Moray Firth π¬
Everyone who visits Burghead knows how special the Moray Firth is... the stunning scenery, peaceful golden beaches, dolphins and other wildlife, fishing boats, and the natural calm that keeps people coming back year after year.
Thereβs a proposed project called the Moray FLOW-Park by Offshore Solutions Group (OSG) that aims to build anchor / storage zones out at sea in the Moray Firth. This will be used for large floating wind turbine bases while they are being built, assembled, or when weather makes it unsafe to keep them in port. This project appears to be part financed by Setec, a French engineering company.
Two large sections of seabed have been earmarked - one in front of the beach between Findhorn and Burghead (Burghead Bay to some and Roseisle Beach to others) and another near Nairn. The areas are very large: equivalent to about 5,600 football pitches. Anchors and chains would fix these bases to the seabed, which means the area of the seabed would be disturbed.
Local fishermen, especially those using small boats, say the FLOW-Park could displace traditional fishing grounds (for prawns, squid etc.), making it hard or impossible to fish close to shore, especially in winter. Their livelihoods could be severely impacted.
The presence of large bases on the water will spoil the panoramic views across the Firth.
If you feel, like us, that the Moray Firth deserves protection and not be turned into a floating storage yard β please sign and share the petition:
