Chris and Cathrine Burnell celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends by going on a trip on the Llangollen Canal on the Lyneal Trust's fully accessible day boat, Shopshire Lady, to the Narrowboat Inn at Whittington for lunch. The boat is able to moor up right outside the front door for easy access.

For further details about day trips, the Trust's holiday boat Shropshire Maid and their fully accessible cottages next to the canal visit www.lyneal-trust.org.uk.

Sometimes a picture says more in black and white. ◼️◻️

Without colour, you start to notice the things that were always there. The texture of old stonework, the geometry of Cross Street in the rain, the way light flares against wet pavements on an overcast afternoon.

Ellesmere has extraordinary bones. This is a town built on centuries of market trade and community. Strip away the colour and it's all still there.

The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms for today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday), with both covering Shropshire. The warnings mean there is a risk of flooding and disruption caused by rain.

👷‍♀️ Our highways team is prepared and ready to deal with the effects of any thunderstorms on the county’s roads.

ℹ️ During thunderstorms, the highway drainage network can become quickly overwhelmed as rain water runs from the surrounding land onto the roads. In many cases this flooding is temporary, and floodwater will recede once the storm has passed. In the event of heavy rain please travel with care, and don’t attempt to drive through flood water.

You can report flooding to us via our website or the Fix My Street app.

Ellesmere is for everyone — and we mean everyone. 💙

The paths around the Mere are flat and easy underfoot. The canal towpath is wide and level. The town centre is compact and walkable, with good parking close by. Most of what makes Ellesmere special is right here, without steep climbs or challenging terrain.

Whether you're a seasoned walker, pushing a buggy, using a wheelchair, or simply taking things at a gentler pace, this town has something to offer you.

We're still working on a full accessibility guide for the area, and we'd love your input. If you have experience visiting Ellesmere with accessibility needs, we'd really value hearing what worked well and what could be better — please share in the comments or send us a message. 🙏
