At Tully Mill, we’re so fortunate to be nestled at the foot of beautiful Benaughlin Mountain in the heart of the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark. We thought we’d share one of our favourite local legends connected to this iconic landmark.

A Horse’s Wisdom…

Benaughlin, or Binn Eachlabhra as it is known in Irish, translates as “the peak of the speaking horse.” According to an old folktale, a mythical white horse would appear every Bilberry Sunday to foretell the future.

Bilberry Sunday was a traditional Irish summer festival when people gathered on hillsides, mountain tops and peatlands to pick bilberries—and, if they were lucky, perhaps even find a spouse. 🍇🐎✨
