This painting has a special place in my heart. It used to hang in my Grandma's house and has now found its new home . This painting has been loved through 4 generations in our family and has been inhertited down the female line. Its a portrait of my great, great Aunt... possibly similarly aged to Gwenelin Ashwin, after whom our cottage is named. Gwenelin Ashwin appears in the history books of Bretforton. The Ashwins were lords of the manor of Bretforton for over 450 years from the early 16th century..so as the Court is named after the Ashwins, we wanted to name our cottage after two of Bretforton Manor's residing Ladies. The first, Wife of James Ashwin, Gwenelin Eyton (1860-?) And second, the daughter of William Henry Ashwin (1835-92), Gwenelin Ashwin (1872-98), possibly named after her Aunt. So there you have it. A little history lesson and backstory to how GwenelinCottage got her name
